YORKSHIRE MIDDLE ROUTE COMBINE NEWS

WITHERNSEA & DISTRICT HOMING SOCIETY

 

The club held their 2018 presentation at the Plough Inn Hollym, a small village 2 miles south of Withernsea. The halcyon days of the 70s may have gone when an attendance of 60 was the norm, even a coach load from Hull, but they still have an enjoyable evening with plenty of laughs especially when Alec explained his exploits when he started racing in 1960 to a loft made of hardboard and flattened fish boxes and some of the charades then. Members were thanked for their support during the season, especially ferrying the birds to Hull to meet the transporter. Alec then introduced friends and Chief guests Yvonne & Allan Atkinson stalwarts of the North Read club and Fed. The prize money was paid out on the Combine races only. In reverse order the prize winners were.

R. Keelty & Son Winning one First and Third Bourges winning Fran Hobbs channel KO and 3rd Bourges Cup.

P. Davenport winning 2 x firsts and the F. Lechonby cup Inland Average.

Dean Adamson winning 2 x first including Battle O.B.

Tony Meek winning 6 x first including Boves and the Cormeilles cup young bird points R. C. Neil cup young bird Average and also K. O Cup, Tony gives 110% and leaves no stone unturned during the season. Well done.

Alec & Margaret Dodson winner of 4 x firsts including Bourges they have been 1st & 2nd club Bourges on several occasions but this year they topped the Combine also winning the following cups P. Dosdale, Longest old bird, B.P Exploration shield, Combined Ave Shield, Cross Bros Channel Ave. F. Fewster 3 longest Ob & y.b. M. Wilson Trophy.

Top of the club was Dave Beadle winning 10 x firsts including Arras Boves also winning the first continental cup Farrington Trophy, T. G. Hart longest y.b O. B. Points, British Gas Shield 2nd longest combine race, Channel Shield. Dave is always in the frame and puts in the time and effort. Well Done.

Flowers were presented to Yvonne and Sue Landlady of the Plough Inn. The usual Raffle and an excellent Buffet this concluded another season with members planning the 2019 campaign.
