Ladeis Weekend 2019
At the end of the racing season members of the Lancashire Social Circle hold a Ladies Weekend that are held in different part of the country each year. This gives all members and guests that attend the opportunity to experience some of the country they might not otherwise go to. Over the many years these functions have been held the Circle have been more that fortunate to have had some fantastic weather and this following a very wet week in most parts the weekend weather was very kind to us. The function was held at the Kensington Hotel in Llandudno North Wales, the hotel is owned by the Beardmore family and Stephen is also a member of the Circle so a little insider help did help on this occasion. One problem of taking the function to various parts of the country is the members who live in that part of the world don't always stay in the hotel, but this is a hardship we over come as they always attend and make the best of the two day event and always bring along a number of guests. This year there were a number of new faces and one in particular was Paul Dolton and his wife Michelle they came as guests of Peter Robinson from Kendal. this friendship goes back a couple of years when Paul reported a pigeon of Peters and the two have kept in contact ever since. The two of them had not met face to face but this difficulty was soon overcome and over the weekend their friendship grew even stronger, which is what the Lancashire Social Circle is all about.

Following the success of last year's weekend the venue was a repeat of hotel, but by no means a complete duplicate. All members and guests arrived from lunch time to mid afternoon and made the most of a dry day when for those who were into cars had the added pleasure of the Wales Rally GB Championships that were being held in Llandudno. All the top teams of both international and national drivers were there and at the front of the hotel were a number of works teams and independents pits, while at the rear there was the very big competitors with their very large set ups. There is plenty to see and do in the town itself and most took advantage to have a light lunch before making their way back for the evening entertainment and a buffet supper. The Circle have used the entertainer before and as a singer he is one of the best covering all types of songs alongside his introductions that any comedian would be proud to own his material. He kept the whole room well entertained for over 3 hours giving his audience two spots of 90 minutes.
Following breakfast on the Saturday morning a coach trip had been arranged when several of the members and guests took advantage of this to see a different part of Wales. The coach took us on a sightseeing tour through the National Park of Snowdonia and dropped the party off in Caernarfon for a couple of hours before taking the party back over the Menai Bridge and back to the hotel. The day went well and everyone was back well in time to get changed ready for dinner in the main dining room. Tony and Kim Merrick who had organised the Ladies Weekend had the 95 fanciers and their better half's seated on large round tables where all the ladies received a small gift that I have to say went down very well. Kim puts a lot of thought into these gifts and Heather Seddon Dr Geoff Richmond's daughter was proudly carrying her handbag she along with the other ladies had received at an earlier event. Proving once more to me these gifts are treasured by the ladies in our party.

Following Saturday night's dinner we had a disco and the DJ also did a few songs that had our ladies up in no time dancing until the early hours. Bob Smith was called upon to auction some great prizes including, two nights stay at the Brown Horse in the Lake District, a two nights stay for four in a self-catering apartment that again was in the Lake District, and two designer Deck Chairs that were unique to the pigeon fanciers. We also hold a raffle and the proceeds from these go a long way to provide the trip and entertainment over the weekend. Following a super breakfast on Sunday it was home for most of us but one or two couples did stay on for another day.
