DERBY NOTES

It's Show Time at Osmaston Park.

 

 

November 3rd and it was the first of the shows for Osmaston Park Homing Society with two classes Blues, Chequers and Colours. There was 68 entries in the blues & chequers class and the judge on this occasion was Mark Lydford judging both classes. With the quality of the pigeons on show it was going to be a difficult task to pick the winners. Taking the first three of the Blues & Chequer’s class was Chris Gilliver. In fourth was Fred Stevenson with John Inger taking Reserve, Very Highly Commended & Commended followed by Mick Willis & Family taking Commended.

In the Colour’s class there was 60 entries. Taking the red card and getting best in show was D. Willis & Family with Mick Willis & Family taking second & Highly Commended. In third, fourth, reserve, Very Highly Commended & Commended was Chris Gilliver.

November 10th was the second show this one being Old Cocks/Old Hens and the judge for this one was Mark Williamson and again the pigeons were in excellent condition making it a testing time for Mark to pick the winners.

 

There were 65 entries in the Old Hens Class and taking the red card also getting best in show for the second week in succession was D. Willis & Family. In second was Mick Willis & Family followed by Mick Stone taking third & reserve. Fourth, Very Highly Commended & Commended went to last year’s show champions John & Steve Hicks and taking Highly Commended was John Inger.

 

In the Old cock’s class, there were 40 entries and taking first & second and best opposite sex was Mick Willis & Family. In third, fourth, Very Highly Commended, Highly Commended and Commended was John Inger with Fred Stevenson taking Reserve. 

 

November 17th and it was the turn of the Young cocks & Young Hens. The judges for this show were John & Jackie Langham. It was another excellent entry once again with Jackie & John being given yet another difficult task picking the winners with the standard being very high in both classes. In the young cocks class, there were 58 entries with D. Willis & Family taking the top two positions plus the best in show for the third week in succession. In third was Mick Stone followed by Mick Willis in fourth. Taking Reserve and Very Highly Commended was John Inger. Shenton Brothers (Norman & Ron) took Highly Commended with Billy Brailsford taking Commended. 

 

In the Young Hens class there were 65 entries and it was that partnership again (D. Wilis & Family) who took the red card and Best Opposite Sex. In second was John & Steve Hicks followed by John Inger taking third and Reserve. Fourth place went to Mick Willis & Family with Steve Stone taking Very Highly Commended and Commended with Highly Commended going to Jake Harcup. 

 

November 24th and it was Old Cocks & Young Hens. It was another excellent turn out with 115 entrants which as in the last three shows were all in excellent condition. The judge for this one was Louisiana Sylvester judging both classes. In the Old Cocks class there were 63 entries and taking the red card plus best opposite sex was Shenton Brothers (Norman & Ron). In second, third & reserve was John Inger with Dave Waddington in fourth. Taking Very Highly Commended & Commended was Mick Willis & Family with Fred Stevenson taking Highly Commended.

 

In the Young Hens class there were 52 entries and taking the red card, best in show also third & Very Highly Commended was John Inger. Taking second & Reserve was Jake Harcup with Mick Willis & Family in fourth. Taking Highly Commended was Mick Stone with Best in show winners Shenton Brothers (Norman & Ron) taking Commended.

 

Supreme Champion

 

The next show was Young Cocks & Old Hens which was held on Saturday 30th November and the judge for this one was Alys Evans. There were 68 entries and the standard for both classes was very high.

Taking first, second & fourth plus Best In Show was John Inger. In third was Mick Willis & Family with Jake Harcup taking Reserve & Highly Commended. Very Highly Commended went to Paul Adams with Commended going to Mick Stone.

 

In the Old Hens class there were 39 entries and Mick Willis & Family took first prize plus Best Opposite Sex. Second went to Paul Adams with Steve Stone taking third, fourth & Reserve. Very Highly Commended, Highly Commended & Commended went to John Inger.

 

The final show of the series was held on Sunday December 8th with yet another excellent turn out with 124 pigeons filling the pens. The judge for this one was Garry Tomlinson and yes, the pressure was on once again with the high standard of entries.

In the any age sex cocks class it was the Mick Willis & Family partnership who took the red card also taking reserve and Best Opposite Sex. Second & third went to Dave Willis & Family with Graham Evans taking fourth. Taking Very Highly Commended was Fred Stevenson with Billy Brailsford taking Highly Commended and John Inger taking Commended.

 

In the Any Age Hens Class it was club secretary Steve stone getting the winner also taking Reserve & Commended and best in show. In second was Mick Stone with Dave Willis & Family taking third. Fourth went to John Inger with John & Steve Hicks taking Very Highly Commended and Mick Willis & Family taking Highly Commended.

 

Then it was the turn of the champion of Champions and judging this one was Clive & Matt Herrett. The Champion of Champions accolade went to Mick Willis & Family (Well Done) with Shenton brothers Norman & Ron coming second with Dave Willis in third. The highest points winner over the six shows was John Inger with his family of Dordins.

Over the six weeks the raffle, which has been very well supported plus the donations given by Billy Brailsford, Clive & Matt Herrett & Gary Fletcher Dave Waddington & John & Steve Hicks made a total of £687.50.
