Top-Drawer Combine Performances at Brotton 6 Bird Club

 Mr & Mrs Golly (Graham) & Linda Peirson, Tubby (Graham) Purver, Evo (Ian) Everington & Frankie Rolands enjoyed a brilliant 2018 racing season flying in the Brotton 6 Bird Club, with the very hard working partnership being the Clubs top prize-winners after winning 5 x 1st, 6 x 2nd, 9 x 3rd, 7 x 4th, 6 x 5th and 6 x 6th Clubs. Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie's top performances throughout the season saw them being Runners-Up Old Bird Inland Average, winners of the Channel Average, Old Bird Combined Average and winners of the Combined Average.

 Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie notched up their first old bird points from the second race Newark where they took 4th Club, and then a week later when the birds were at Chelmsford (1) a couple of their entries were on the clock to lift a notable 2nd and 3rd Club. The birds were at the Eastbourne National a week later where 2nd Club was taken, another single bird was on the clock out of Oakham (1) to claim 3rd Club, 23rd East Cleveland Federation. Now onto the first French channel race Burbure (1) where the gang had two of their team in the frame to chalk up a nice 2nd and 4th Club, with this quickly followed up by netting 5th Club Huntingdon. Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie had scored in five of the seven races so far before timing a couple of their squad out of Oakham (2) to pocket 3rd and 5th Club. Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie recorded their first win of the season in earth-shattering style from the second channel race Burbure (2) which replaced the Roye race as the the UNC were unable to get a liberation out of Roye due to the very poor weather. This proved to be Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie's best performance of the season after timing no fewer than three of their channel team to win a brilliant 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club, 3rd, 5th and 7th Fed out of 253 birds, 4th, 8th and 16th Up North Combine from a convoy of 4,051 birds. Their very enjoyable day did not stop there for Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie also won an outstanding 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club in Brotton H/S, 2nd, 6th and 11th Fed, 2nd, 14th and 68th UNC winning a Combine Silver Medal and “The Danish Cup Of Friendship” for the best 2-bird performance, which does not get much better than that, and all well-deserved. The bird that was 3rd Brotton 6 Bird Club won 1st Fed £2 Nom banking £53.00 while the bird that netted 3rd Brotton H/S won 2nd £2 Fed Nom pocketing £31.80.  

 

Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie achieved their second old bird win on the bounce at Chelmsford (1) when their chart-topper who won the Club by six minutes went onto score a cracking 6th Fed when there was 1,131 birds competing. Onto Oakham (3) where a couple of birds were in the frame to lift 4th and 6th Club with the yellow card potter going onto notch up 40th Fed. Back over the pond for the fourth French race Reims where another two birds were on the clock to pot 3rd and 6th Club, with the green card lifter going onto net 31st Fed. The curtain came down on the 2018 old bird season at the Belgian race point Ypres where Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie returned to the winners' enclosure in great style after timing a trio of birds to win a top-notch 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club, 14th, 24th and 39th Fed out of 751 birds, with their red card winner going onto chalk up 128th UNC when there was 8,775 birds and round off a memorable old bird season.

 

 

I don't have the full young bird results but I do know who won the nine young bird races with Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie winning two of them. With their first red card winning performance being achieved from the third young bird race Worksop (1) when a couple of babies were on the clock to win 1st and 5th Club, and the pole position winner going onto score 19th Fed when there were 1,650 birds away. Three weeks later young bird win number two was achieved when their chart-topping Huntingdon winner went onto score 23rd Fed when there was 1,352 birds competing.

W & S Ward were the Clubs second highest prize-winners after winning 8 x 1st, 8 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd Clubs etc, winning the Old Bird Inland Average and Runners-Up Combined Average. Bill and grandson Shaun made a winning start to the 2018 racing season when the duo had a couple of their entries on the clock from old bird Bubwith to win a notable 1st and 3rd Club, with the lads red card winner going onto score 18th Fed when there were 1,474 birds competing. Bill & Shaun made it two wins out of two from Newark when they timed no fewer than three of their squad to win a cracking 1st, 2nd and 6th Club, with the red and blue card scorers that were timed within two seconds of each other going onto chalk up 19th and 20th Fed from a convoy of 2,332 birds. Bill & Shaun recorded a hat-trick of wins out of Chelmsford (1) after clocking two birds to win 1st and 5th Club; and this was followed up a week later by bagging 5th Club Eastbourne National. The inform Bill & Shaun returned to their winning ways a week later at  Oakham (1) when two of their team were timed to win a notable 1st and 2nd Club, 13th and 22nd Fed when there was 1,606 birds away. The lads good form continued at Worksop where they timed three 2 year-olds in the space of 25 seconds to win a top-notch 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club, 12th, 14th and 17th Fed out of an entry of 987 birds. Lifelong member of the sport Bill and Shaun were really enjoying their racing with five wins from the first six inland races, which is an outstanding achievement.

 

But their winning never stopped there for they netted their sixth red card winning performance out of Huntingdon; and followed that up a week later by timing no fewer than four of their inform squad to win a top-drawer 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th Club Oakham (2). Onto Chelmsford (2) where Bill & Shaun timed a single bird to net 2nd Club and then had two birds in the frame out of Oakham (3) to lift 2nd and 3rd Club, 27th and 37th Fed. The duo returned to the winners' enclosure at Oakham (5) the final old bird inland race of the season, where they had a couple of their entries on the clock to win a belting 1st and 2nd Club, 3rd and 15th Fed when there were 660 birds competing. This was Bill & Shaun's eighth inland win of the old bird campaign which is an outstanding record to have, add the lads Fed positions and you can say they had done very well for themselves flying a maximum six birds a week. Onto the young birds where 4th Club, 29th Fed was notched up out of Worksop (1) and then 3rd Club, 33rd Fed Bubwith (3) was taken.    

Frank & Brenda Reilly, Peter Marshall & Wayne Reilly, 1st Up North Combine young bird Maidstone National 10,914 birds.

 

Frank & Brenda Reilly & son Wayne and loft helper Peter Marshall were the Clubs third highest prize-winners after winning 8 x 1st, 8 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd Clubs etc, the gang were also Runners-Up Channel Average and Runners-Up Young Bird Average. The partnership started the season in the frame after timing two of their squad from Bubwith to lift 5th and 6th Club and followed that up two weeks later by taking 6th Club Chelmsford (1). Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter had a couple of birds on the clock out of the Eastbourne National to pocket a useful 3rd and 4th Club, and then took 5th Club the following week from Oakham (1). The gang were in the points from the fourth race running from Worksop when they had two birds on the clock to chalk up 4th and 5th Club with the yellow card potter going onto claim 36th Fed. Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter enjoyed a good clocking day out of Huntingdon after timing three of their six entries to pocket a notable 3rd, 4th and 6th Club. The lofts first Brotton Six Bird Club win of the season came in fantastic style when they timed one of their Bourges entries to win a brilliant 1st Club, 2nd Fed out of 100 birds, 2nd £2 Fed Nom pocketing £19.80 and 25th UNC out of an entry of 1,360 birds from the distance of 540 miles. The winner was the only bird back in the Club, only one of eight home in the East Cleveland Federation and only one of 71 recorded from the three day race in the Up North Combine.

  

There was also an inland race on the same weekend as the Bourges race which was from Oakham (3), Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter recorded their second win of the weekend, with their red card winner that topped the Club charts by 2 minutes going onto score 13th Fed when there was 1,336 birds away. Win number three on the bounce was achieved out of the Maidstone National when their well out in front pole position winner went onto lift 17th Fed out of an entry of 1,006 birds. Win number four on the belt was chalked up from Reims where a couple of their channel team were on the clock to win a well-earned 1st and 2nd Club, 28th and 29th Fed when there were 304 birds competing. The inform Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter recorded their fifth consecutive win at Oakham (4) when their well out in front chart-topper went onto net 15th Fed out of an entry of 660 birds.

  

Onto the young birds were Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter notched up 2nd Club, 21st Fed Worksop (1) and then they won a notable 1st and 3rd Club out of Chelmsford, when their red card winning baby went onto score 17th Fed when there were 1,177 birds competing. The race of all race came Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter way at the Maidstone National when they timed no less than three youngsters to win a top-drawer 1st, 2nd and 5th Club, 1st and 23rd Fed out of 887 birds. With the pole position winner who topped the Club charts by 21 minutes and topped the Fed by 8 minutes going onto win a earth-shattering 1st Section 7 winning £148.62 in prize money and 1st Up North Combine from a convoy of 10,914 birds, winning the “Jocker Mills Memorial Trophy”, the “Young Bird Cup” and a Combine Gold Medal. The partnerships blue card potter went onto chalk up 79th UNC; but they had two birds on the clock before that in Brotton H/S to win a brilliant 1st and 2nd Club, 8th and 9th Fed, 24th and 30th UNC. The Brotton 6 Bird Club winner and the Brotton H/S winner went onto to win the “Terry Craggs Memorial Trophy” for the best two bird performance. Frank, Brenda, Wayne & Peter were still on cloud 9 when they timed a couple of birds the following week from Bubwith (3) the final race of the 2018 racing season to win a notable 1st and 2nd Club, 16th and 28th Fed when there were 602 birds competing to round off a once in a lifetime season.

  

Mr & Mrs Bob & Babs Moore 2018 racing season saw them be the Clubs fourth highest prize-winners after winning 4 x 1st, 4 x 2nd, 5 x 3rd Clubs etc, winning the Young Bird Average. Bob & Babs were in the old bird points from day one when they timed a couple of their Bubwith entries to chalk up a notable 2nd and 4th Club, and followed that up a week later by netting 3 Club, 32nd Fed Newark. Another single bird was on the clock from Oakham (1) to pot 4th Club, and then two birds were timed out of Chelmsford (2) to claim 4th and 5th Club. Bob & Babs had their normal outstanding young bird season where they once again won the Club Young Bird Average. The duo hit the winners' enclosure from day one when they won 1st Club, 18th Fed Bubwith (1) from a convoy of 2,092 birds. Win number two on the bounce was achieved out of Bubwith (2) when their red card winning baby went onto score 36th Fed when there were 1,575 birds competing. The following week when the birds were at Worksop (1) 3rd Club was netted.

  

Bob & Babs racked up their third young bird win from four races at Worksop (2) after timing a couple of their entries to win a top-notch 1st and 2nd Club, with their chart-topper who potted the green the previous race winning the Club by 3 minutes to go onto lift a useful 9th Fed when there were 1,535 birds away. While Bob & Babs' blue card scoring youngster went onto to chalk up 34th Fed. The inform Bob & Babs recorded their fourth win in five young bird starts out of Oakham when their pole position winner went onto score 32nd Fed out of an entry of 1,526 birds. A week later when the birds were at Huntingdon 2nd Club was taken, 2nd Club was potted again the following week from Chelmsford only this time their blue card scorer notched up 18th Fed. Bob & Babs were in the frame for the eighth consecutive race when they netted 3rd Club out of the Maidstone National, with their green card scoring youngster being the same baby that potted 2nd Club, 34th Fed Worksop (2) when beaten by a loftmate that won 1st Club, 9th Fed.

Andrew & Gavin Doe, John (Dillon) Swales and the late Sandy Sanderson first old bird points were achieved out of the second race Newark where they pocketed 5th Club. A couple of their team were in the frame from Burbure (1) to lift 5th and 6th Club, and then a week later a very nice 2nd Club was taken from Huntingdon. Onto Burbure 2 (sub Roye) where the lads took 5th Club, 42nd Fed and then claimed 6th Club from Chelmsford (2). Andrew, Gavin & Dillon were in the channel points again from Reims after copping 4th Club, 32nd Fed.

Ricky Cush netted three times from the first six old bird races with his first points coming from the third race Chelmsford (1) where 4th Club was taken, Ricky then took 6th Club from the back-to-back Oakham (1) & Worksop races. Kevin & Merv Brown & Sacker (Bill) Cole hit the winners' enclosure from the first French channel race Burbure (1) when their well out in front pole position winner went onto score an impressive 5th Fed out of 726 birds and 82nd UNC when there was 10,633 birds competing. Kevin, his father Merv & Sacker also took 4th Club, 32nd Fed out of Burbure (2) and then notched up 5th Club the following week out of Oakham (3).

Former Marske & New Marske member Danny Fawcett came up trumps from the old bird Eastbourne National where he won a brilliant 1st Club. Vic Garbutt,

Brian “Mac” McCormick of Garbutt, Stone & McCormick, scorers of  3rd, 4th and 6th Club.

the late Brian (Rusty) Stone & Brian (Mac) McCormick took 6th Club out of the Eastbourne National before being in the channel points from the first water race Burbure (1) where they netted a useful 3rd Club and followed that up by potting the green again at Chelmsford (2). Dave “Rooster” Storr was the potter of 4th Club young bird Maidstone National. The Son & Father partnership of Darren & James Waters were in the clock out of Reims where they notched up 5th Club.
