Fantastic race out of Yeovil (3) sees D. Nesbitt & Sons win their sixth first fed of the season.
Saturday June 24th finally saw the end of the easterly winds our old birds have faced virtually the whole season, and boy, didn’t they enjoy it. It was a lovely day, with blue skies and a few fluffy white clouds, visibility was endless, and a gentle helping wind all the way home.
51 members from 9 clubs sent 730 birds, which Alys liberated at 08-55 in a light SW wind.
Congratulations to the Rugeley Lofts of D. Nesbitt & Sons on taking their sixth first fed of 2023, along with their Hill Ridware club mates; they totally dominated the top ten in the fed in a blanket finish; where the top 10 were separated by less than 15 seconds
D. Nesbitt & Sons took 1st; 4th; 5th; 6th; and 7th fed on 1796; 1794.9; 1794.4; 1794.2(2). The fed topper was a 4yo cheq Leo Hereman hen. Followed by a yearling blue hen, her sire “The Irish Cock”; her dam a daughter off “Isla”. Then a 2yo blue hen out of Mark’s inbred “Sagan” cock x “Tividale Queen”; the granddaughter of “Isla”; who won the Tividale breeder buyer and £4100 in 2020.

Kev’s third arrival was a 2yo blue Hereman Cuester cock; again bred by Derek Nicholls; he’s a grandson of “Wildwind”; “Euro Lady”; “Better than Bolt” and “Kittelina”. This 2yo cock has been one of Kev’s most consistent birds; he scored as a yearling; and this season he has a 3rd; 10th; 13th; and 14th fed prior to this one. Kev did pair his birds up with a view to sending 4 hens to Pau with the NFC, but changed his plans with a focus on the MNFC Roullet Saint Estephe and Vire races in July. So he put them back on widowhood and had 6 drop together; and they all appear in the top 13 of the fed.
Completing the top ten were the previous weeks fed toppers Spink & Barks, Phil and Daz take 10th fed on 1792.6 with a cheq wf cock off D. Nesbitt & sons.
