Great race out of Hullavington (2) sees Davis; Wright & Sons win 1^st fed for the 3^rd time this season.

Saturday August 19^th saw 62 members from 9 clubs enter 1378 birds to the second Hullavington race of this yb season.

Once again the south west wind did blow, meaning another fast race was on the cards. Alys was patient; liberating the birds at 11-35 and a great race followed. Yes, as expected a lot of birds went whizzing past, but returns were very good; and it produced a very close finish; with 24 seconds separating the top ten.

Congratulations to the top south Derbyshire loft of Davis, Wright & sons of Swadlincote Town, they took 1^st fed for the third time this season.  Their winner on 2081 was a mealy cock, the sire a direct son of “The Champ” and “Golden Eggs”, the Kris Wijnant pair obtained from the top Northern Ireland lofts of the Gordon Bros; this cock was badly hawked last year, so they decided to retire him to the stock pen, looks like a good decision?   

The dam of the winner is a mealy pied on loan from Debbie Fearn; she is line bred to “Brokenwing”. Her sire is “88” a breeder of multiple winners. Her dam is a granddaughter of “Hideaway”; when paired to “Sweetie”; this pair is responsible for multiple prize-winners from 60 to 400 miles.

Back to Swadlincote Town now for the rest of the top ten; the inform team of Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton were 4^th fed on 2075.8 with a cheq cock, the sire from Shaun McDonough, the dam loaned by Brian Ayre, she’s a grand daughter of John Gilbert’s great Wildemeersch cock “The Saint”. Alan followed up with another in 7^th spot on 2075.3; this one a blue cock, his sire is Alan’s best Louis Thijs, his dam off the top Wall, Lunt & Green stock of Geoff Farmer.

In the last 3 races, Alan & Helen have won a 1^st; 2^nd; 3^rd; 4^th and 7^th fed; not bad for an octogenarian Alan.

Completing the top ten were Pete Brown & son in 9^th and 10^th spots on 2073 with a cheq hen off Gary Thompson of Wingate up in County Durham; and 2070 with a blue Leen Boers hen off Tumley Lofts stock..

Starting at Stretton, 6 sent 178 and a great win for Mr & Mrs Pete Cox, who live on the west side of the club. They timed in a pied Vandenabeele cock out of the best “Wittenbuik” lines from Ann Smith of Ashbourne on 2046. Phil Bourke kept up the good form taking 2^nd on 2016 with a blue Van den Bulck x Jos Cools cock, this cock was bred by Kev Matthews of Holbrook and purchased in the fed breeder buyer.

Phil was also 3^rd on 2015.9 with another blue cock, this one a son of “Mr Fahrenheit”; who’s a nephew of M/M Lycett’s champion cock “Eddy”.                                                                    

Phil also took 4^th spot on 2015.5 with a cheq Andre Roodhooft cock from the best of the Gordon Bros. The parents being “Big Gun” and the “Sandra Hen”.

Holbrook sent 224 birds and Mick Fearn was 1^st; 2^nd and 4^th on 2079; 2077; 2068.7; two Lambrecht hens either side of a mealy Van den Bulck cock.

D & A Swift & son were 3^rd on 2068.8 with a blue cock gifted to them by the top partnership of Eric & Ashley Burdett.

At Etwall, 9 sent 133 and Kev Southall made it 4 wins out of 4 races with his young birds; he was 1^st; 3^rd and 4^th on 1883; 1864; 1863; the first two were nestmates, a blue hen and a mealy cock; followed by a mealy cock, all Van den Bulcks from the Jackpot Lofts stock. Secretary Alan Peach was runner up on 1867 with a red hen.

At Osmaston Park, 18 sent 286 and Dave Waddington took top spot on 2048 with a dark cheq hen out of his Alan Brassington and “The Bat” stock.

At Swadlincote Town, 10 sent 301 and the top 8 appear in the open result above.

Across at Hill Ridware, 3 sent 87 and Kev Johnson got another win under his belt, Kev timed in a Jan Aarden x Hereman Cuester cock on 1974; this cock was sent sitting 4 days. His sire is a full brother to “Angel” who won 1^st section; 48^th open N.F.C. Sigogne this year.

Westley & son, which was purchased in a breeder buyer sale.

Another young bird team in good form is that of Mr & Mrs Jim Whitehouse & sons, Jim took 2^nd; 3^rd; and 4^th club on 1970 with a blue pied Johan den Harog & son cock; 1965.7 with another blue pied cock, this one off the best of Simon Parkinson, the sire is full brother to “Sunday Girl”; the mother a daughter off “Paula Radcliffe”; one the same way bred was 2^nd fed for Spink & Barks the week before.  

Then came a grizzle Johan den Hartog & son hen on 1965.3; these Johan den Hartog’s all come from Barry Jones.
