Burton & South Derbyshire Federation - 29-09-23

Burton & South Derbyshire Federation.

Mr & Mrs Darren Johnson of Holbrook hit the fed for six out of Hullavington to end the 2023 season

Saturday September 23rd was scheduled to be the young bird special race out of Newton Abbott, but due to the lack of interest, and it not being viable for the federation to run the race, members were offered instead a final run out from Hullavington, which they accepted. It was a lovely racing day with blue skies; sunshine; and a gentle west wind.

Alys cut the strings at 10:05 and the 471 birds entered by 33 members from 7 clubs were away for their final effort of the season. It was a tale of two lofts many miles apart that fought out the fed top ten. Mr & Mrs Darren Johnson flying 107 miles up at Holbrook on the east side, and Mark Nesbitt flying 84 miles on the west side.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Darren Johnson of the Holbrook club on taking the top six positions in the fed. This was Darren’s first race at Holbrook, only joining during the old bird season, he is no stranger to success; being renowned as a very good flyer. Darren timed in a blue Sylvain Verhestraeten cock to top the fed on 1636.6; he was closely followed by a grizzle Pitbull cock on 1636.3; then a blue Verhestraeten hen took 3rd fed on 1635. Two more grizzle Pitbull cocks were 4th & 6th fed on 1634; 1632; with a blue Verhestraeten cock sandwiched in between to take 5th fed on 1633. All the Verhestraeten birds are Belgian rung; well done Darren and Vicky.
