A good race out of Yeovil sees D.Nesbitt & Sons dominate.

Saturday May 25th saw 64 members send 1033 birds to Yeovil (2), a replacement for the scheduled Frome race, due to the liberation site being unavailable. Birdage was down slightly this week with members having birds away at Carentan with the MNFC and the NMCC. 

Once again an Easterly wind blew, favouring the Rugeley lofts at Hill Ridware, and they didn’t miss the chance, totally dominating the fed top 20. 
Alys cut the strings at 09-55 in a South East wind, and the leading birds made an average speed of 56 mph.    

Congratulations to D.Nesbitt & Sons of Hill Ridware, Mark was 1st; 2nd; 4th; 5th; 6th; 7th; 8th; and 9th fed on 1643; 1636; 1633.5; 1633.2;1633.0; 1626.8; 1626.4;1624; that’s eight birds in 93 seconds. The fed topper was the good yearling Leo Hereman blue hen “05”; she topped our fed as a young bird, and so far this season she has won 4th fed Cheltenham; 13th fed Frome; 5th fed Yeovil (1); 5th fed Weymouth and now 1st fed Yeovil (2). “05” is a full sister to mark’s MNFC Gold ring winner. Runner up was the top 2yo Dark Cheq Lambrecht x Hereman cock, a winner of 4 x 1st fed; his sire a son of Adam Wealthall’s “Grizzly Bear”; his dam a daughter of “Isla”.

4th fed was a yearling Cheq Hereman Cock; a brother to the fed topper“05”.

5th fed was a 2yo dark Hereman x Lambrecht hen; she topped the fed out of Cheltenham this year; her sire is a son of “Isla”; her dam a daughter of Adam Wealthall’s “Snowball”.                                                                                                         

6th fed was a 2yo blue Hereman hen; she’s a daughter of “Isla”.                                    

7th fed was a yearling blue Hereman cock off a grandson of “Isla”.                           

8th fed a yearling blue cock off “Young Opal” when paired to the top Hereman hen “Belg 196”; who was a winner of multiple 1st fed.                                           

9th fed was a yearling dark Lambrecht cock, he’s a grandson of “Snowball” and was 2nd fed the week previous out of Weymouth.

The previous two weeks fed topper C.Leadbeater & Sons had to be content with 3rd fed this week; on 1634 with a yearling Blue wf hen bred by Johan Van Herck.

Completing the top ten was D.Harvey & Sons 2yo Cheq hen in 10th spot on 1623; she was 4th fed Yeovil (1) and is out of a pair from I & B Jones off John Bradley stock.

Around the clubs,

At Stretton, 8 sent 156 and Jim Parker & Son made it back to back wins, taking 1st & 2nd on 1557; 1552; the winner a 4yo Leo Hereman cock out of the Wall; Lunt  & Green “Worley Cock”; followed by a 2yo Hereman cock out of the “05” hen.

Phil Bourke was 3rd & 4th on 1546; 1539; with a nest pair of blue yearling hens, these two hens are out of a brother to M/M K Lycett’s “Eddy” when paired to a hen from central Lofts stock. These two hens were 1st & 2nd fed Honiton last year.

At Winshill, 6 sent 69 and Melv Willis took the top spot on 1454 with a yearling Blue pied hen which was bred by Debbie Fearn off the “Broken Wing” lines.                                                                                                                      

Debbie Fearn was runner up on 1430 with her good 2yo mealy pied hen “Domino”. 

Liam Clamp was 3rd on 1430 with a yearling blue Van Den bulk hen; and Brian & Leslie Stone were 4th on 1327 with a 3yo blue wf Staf van Reet cock.

At Osmaston Park, 15 sent 166 and Alan & Liz Houldsworth were 1st & 2nd on 1525; 1523; their winner a 3yo Blue Hereman Cuester cock bred by Kev Southall; he was followed by a home bred yearling blue hen. Dave Waddington was 3rd on 1519 with a yearling Cheq cock out of “The Bat” x Alan Brassington lines.

Mr & Mrs Paul Todd were 4th on 1515 with a 3yo Blue Lambrecht hen.

At Swadlincote Town, 12 sent 261 and congratulations to Mark Collins flying as B.Collins & Son; Mark took top spot on 1563 with a yearling Blue Cooreman cock bred out of birds from Baron Brothers of Redbourn in Hertfordshire.

Mr & Mrs Lee Clamp & Sons were runners up on 1561 with a yearling Blue hen bred by Ann Smith of Ashbourne. 

Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton were 3rd & 4th on 1558.4; 1558.2; the first a 2yo cheq hen sister to the cock that was 4th club the week before out of Weymouth, her sire a Louis Thijs x Wall, Lunt & Green; her dam, another Wall, Lunt & Green; this one from Geoff Farmer of Atherstone. She was followed by a yearling cheq cock that won Cheltenham and took 7th fed; he was 2nd club; 4th fed as a yb; his sire off Shaun McDonough; his dam off the late Brian Ayre; a grand daughter of John Gilbert’s “The Saintes Cock”.

On the same day 5 members sent 49 birds to Carentan with the Midlands National; making it a day to remember Mark Collins took top spot on 1500 with a 3yo Cheq cock; this cock has previously scored on the North road winning 61st Open in a British Barcelona Club Perth race. His sire from Ray Bullen was purchased from the 2019 RPRA One Loft race sale. His dam was from club mates Davis, Wright & Sons, for co- breeding; she is a George Carteus from Roger Phillips of Guernsey.

Davis, Wright & Sons were 2nd & 3rd on 1485; 1451; the first a 3yo cheq cock “Nibble”; he’s a previous fed topper out of Weymouth. His sire is a grandson of  the Gordon Bros “Super 147” a Mr & Mrs Lycett Vandenabeele off “Pale Rider” lines  x “Faith”; she’s a Gabby Vandenabeele x Staf Van Reet; “Faith” who is a daughter of “31616” won 1st fed Portland and 3rd fed Kingsdown. His dam is a Roodhooft from the Gordon Bros, she’s a winner of 2nd fed.  3rd was 3yo blue pied hen; her sire is a line bred Van Reet from their original pair x Bert Hession. Her dam is a daughter of “31616” when paired to a daughter of Tony & Lee Painter’s “Van Persie”. This hen is also the mother of “Fat Grizzle” who was 2 x 6th open NMCC and 5th section, 33rd open MNFC Guernsey. 

Mr & Mrs Graham Evans were 4th on 1410 with the 2yo blue pied hen that was 3rd club the week previous out of Weymouth; she topped our fed as a yb. Her sire is a Dixon & Sons Wildemeersch; her dam is one of Grahams old favourites; a 9yo Wildemeersch.  

At Etwall, 8 sent 115 and Alan Peach filled the top four spots on 1506; 1463; 1461; 1460; the winner a yearling Cheq hen bred by Spink & Barks and purchased at the fed breeder buyer sale; then a yearling cheq hen; another purchase at the fed breeder buyer sale; this one bred by Mick Willis of Derby. She was followed by a yearling blue cock and a 2yo cheq wf hen; both Jansennes.

Up at Holbrook, M Stone got back to winning ways taking the top three on 1538.7; 1538.2; 1525; the winner the good 2yo cheq Hereman Cuester hen “46”; her sire from the Wright Bros; her dam from John Ellerby. “46” has won 1 x1st and 2 x 2nd this season and has 6 top 20 fed positions to her credit. Runner up was a 2yo Pied hen off stock from Simon Parkinson; she’s a winner of several fed cards. 3rd club was a yearling cock bred by Kerry Mellondby from his William de Bruin stock.  D & A Swift & Son were 4th on 1514 with a 2yo.
