Davis, Wright & Sons end the Hill Ridware dominance as the wind turns to Westerly out of Weymouth.
Saturday June 8th saw 68 members enter 1014 birds for the second visit to Weymouth of 2024. The wind finally turned out the East, and the birds were met with a fresh NW. The day started overcast with lots of cloud, Alys had to be patient, and the strings were finally cut at 12-15, and the birds had blue skies, sunshine; and the cool NW wind all the way home.
Congratulations to Davis, Wright & Sons of the Swadlincote Town club, they take 1st fed on 1383 with a yearling blue cock bred by Central Lofts, his sire is “Trailblazer” who was the first yb bred off “Best Kittel II” who was bred off “Best Kittel” and a sister to “Olympic Rosita” . His dam is “Diamond Junior 932” she is responsible for breeding birds to win 10 x 1st and 4 x 1st fed in her first 2 years!! She is bred off the “Best Kittel “and “Shakira” lines.

Runner up on 1377 was Roy Hawkins with a yearling home bred blue pied hen raced on the natural.
3rd fed on 1370 was Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton with a yearling cheq hen; she’s out of a cock from Jo gaunt; bred out of a grandson of “Kittel” when paired to a hen out of a pair from Steve Foster, a Van den Bulck x Maurice Hassendonckx; Maurice was instrumental in the Hereman family.

Into Derby now, at Osmaston Park, 14 sent 130 and Dave Waddington continues his good form taking 1st & 2nd on 1349; 1343; both out of “The Bat” x Alan Brassington stock; the winner a yearling dark cheq cock; followed by a 2yo Blue cock.
Mick Stone was 3rd on 1333 with a yearling Van den Bulck cock; and Mr & Mrs Paul Todd were 4th on 1329 with a 3yo Lambrecht hen.
Up at Holbrook, 9 sent 159 and congratulations to Alan & Daniel Gibson; they won a tight finish, taking top spot on 1334 with a yearling cheq cock off their Syndicate lofts stock.

At Etwall, 7 sent 78 and Steve Billings defied the wind to take 1st & 3rd on 1282; 1263; the winner a 3yo cheq cock followed by a 2yo mealy cock; well done Steve.
Alan Peach was runner up on 1278 with a 7yo blue cock that was bred and raced by Dave Williams; then when Dave called it a day Alan had him; broke him out and has now added to his prize list.
Pete & Shirley Harrison were 4th on 1260 with a 2yo blue cock.
At Winshill, 7 sent 83 and Jim Parker & Son made it 2 wins on the day and back to back wins at Winshill with his best Hereman cock “23” on 1329, this cock has now won 13 x 1st and 2 x 1st fed, the best of Wall, Lunt & Green; his brother won at Stretton the same day.
Melv Willis pushed him all the way, taking 2nd & 3rd spots on 1328; 1327; timing in two yearling hens, the first a van den Bulck x Wildie, closely followed by a Hereman x Van den Bulck.
Mr & Mrs Scott Stringer were 4th on 1312 with a yearling Wildie x Zwols hen.
At Swadlincote Town, 15 sent 244 and the top four took the top four fed positions, details above.
On the same day 6 sent 57 to the MNFC race from Fougeres, it turned out to be a bit of a tough ride for the birds. Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Graham Evans on taking top spot on 1141 with a 2yo blue pied Wildemeersch hen, she was 4th out of Carentan this year and 3rd club out of Weymouth; she also topped our fed as a yb. Her sire bred by Dixon & Sons of Wearside; topped our fed as a young bird; and her dam is a grand daughter of “Firecracker”.
Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son were 2nd; 3rd; and 4th on 1138; 1123; 1107; with a 4yo cheq Vandenabeele hen; a 2yo cheq wf hen off the “Kittel” lines; and a 2yo blue cock off Woodruff Brothers x Billy Calvert stock.

The inland Old Bird Special race is optional to members; entries are £1 a bird; with a £1 nomination; ten prizes are paid out. This year 21 members entered 124 birds, and taking 1st Open was Davis, Wright & Sons with their fed topper on 1383; they also took 8th on 1344.
