BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.
John & Pamela Dowd win the sprint finish out of Salisbury (1) as Holbrook dominates.
Due to the uncertainty of the weather forecast for the Saturday, marking was put back 24 hours and the first race from Salisbury in Wiltshire for our youngsters took place on Sunday August 25th.
Alys was greeted with lovely blue skies and the 993 birds entered by 52 members were liberated at 09-25 in a W.S.W. wind, turning more southerly as the birds got close to home. It turned out to be a real quick race with Holbrook at the top end of the fed totally dominating the result, but one bird got itself a good 80 seconds in front of the chasing pack to take 1st fed.
Congratulations to John & Pamela Dowd on topping the fed on 1900 with a blue hen out of their Bob Fenech stock. John purchased some birds off Bob in 2022 and they have now gone on to breed 3 x fed toppers.

I’m sure I saw the chasing batch come over Stretton just before 11-19? They were high up and going like a train, I didn’t expect to see them over Stretton, I thought they would be East of the A38, but I worked them out to be doing close on 1880, so I’m sure it must have been the Holbrook bunch? No doubt about it, John & Pam’s winner was flying solo on the East side into Heanor, a very good winner indeed?
Russ Bailey followed up the previous week’s performance when he took the first five in the fed, by taking 2nd; 4th; 5th; 8th and 9th on 1878.6; 1878.20(2); 1877.9(2); first over the pad was a Blue Pied hen off stock from Rich Wolverson x Brian Fisher . Two more off the Woodroffe Bros came next, a Dark hen and a Cheq cock. Russ had 17 over the pads in a 33 second spell.
