BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.
2015 PRIZE PRESENTATION EVENING
Saturday October 17th saw the annual prize presentation for the 2015 season of the Burton & South Derbyshire federation. Close on 50 members and guests gathered at the Gresley indoor bowls centre in the centre of South Derbyshire.
President Jim summers said grace and everyone then sat down and enjoyed a lovely 5 course meal. Jim then welcomed the guests for the evening, Mr & Mrs Mickey Lennon from Nuneaton,
this was followed by Jims usual mix of humorous stories and jokes, which I must say were better than normal Jim!!

Treasurer Pete Wightman then gave a brief summary of the 2015 season; the prize money for each special race was £490-82, with the winner of each race winning £122-70. Total paid out for the four special races including pools for 3 of the races was £5770.78. All pools were returned to members for the Niort race, which ended up being liberated from Yeovil. Inland birdage for 2015 was 40,292 up by 3644 nearly 10% on 2014. The ob birdage was up by 3501 nearly 17% on 2014, we certainly bore the fruits for the yb race programme which was devised to try and help members rebuild their teams after a couple of difficult seasons nationwide. The 2015 yb birdage was up by 143 on 2014. Income from clubs for inland birdage and subscriptions was up by 9.7%.
Pete also thanked Alan Smith who as race controller did the federation members and birds proud, I know how much time and effort Alan puts in each week to give us the best racing possible.
Chief guest for the evening Mickey Lennon was then asked to assist secretary graham evans in presenting the following prizes to those members present:
First up was Pete Wightman, who collected his plaque for 1st fed Hullavington ob. Alan & Liz Houldsworth of Etwall were next up; they won the ob ladies trophy and were

Secretary Jenny Page collects on behlaf of Hill Ridware and Daz Barks collects The Maltster Trophy from pete Whightman
The next trophy to be presented was to the top club in the federation for 2015, this was won by Hill Ridware, and their secretary jenny page was called upon to collect the trophy. It was then the turn of Pete Wightman to present the maltster’s trophy to in his opinion the fancier(s) of the year. Pete said it was probably the most difficult decision he has had to make in a long time. With the channel programme being curtailed to two Carentan and a Yeovil, and no member dominating in the fed, it was won basically on the amount of top ten prize cards won throughout the season. Fanciers in the shake up were; Spink & Barks; m/m K Lycett; Elmore & Smith; m/m T Collins & son; m/m Alan Stretton; and of course Keith Burton and Rob Horton, rob was the only fancier to win 3 fed firsts, all with his yb’s. The winners were Spink & Barks of Hill Ridware, they topped the fed out of Frome with both their ob’s and yb’s and they also won the breeder buyer race. They competed in the top club in the fed for 2015 against some tremendous fanciers. Phil and Darren are also tremendous supporters of the federation, so were worthy winners.

Finally, Eleanor Evans presented Micks’ good lady a bouquet on behalf of the federation.
The raffle was then drawn, and from where i was sat, it looked like the Hill Ridware table were tops again?? There was one thing for sure, Stretton didn’t get a sniff, it must have been an east wind!!
Great thanks must go to graham and Eleanor Evans for not only organising the evening, but for their work throughout the season.
One notable absentee on the night was rob Horton of Tamworth, rob was top prize winner and money winner in the fed, he won £595 prize money and £422-10 pool money out of the Kingsdown yb race when he took the first 8, winning a total of £1017-10.
