Cork Area News:
Quimper Friendship National
The final old bird race of the season took place in conjunction with the INFC from Quimper in France this race is known as the Friendship National. A convoy of 1170 pigeons were liberated on Friday July the 10th at 0600 in a light south easterly wind. With weather conditions very good en route a fast race was expected and true to form the members were not disappointed.
The initial National winners were the ever consistent lofts of Malachy and Mark Maguire of Millvale. This loft is no stranger to national success as the father and son partnership have won nationals both together and individually their birds are predominantly from their national winner Home Alone a Jan Aarden based pigeon and Portavogie Lass another national winner acquired by the partnership to enhance their distance based pigeons. Well done to both Malachy and Mark on yet another wonderful performance.
On the home front our Federation performed well but with the race being a fast one a national win wasn’t to be.15:07 saw the first of the cork arrivals come to the Mulcahy Bros of Cork North West. The partnership consists of Gerard and David and the former Federation winners of the Kings Cup race from St Alloustre in 2014 and 2013 were delighted to increase their federation wins from France to three. Their pigeon was a yearling blue hen of Busschaert base and was injured early in the season she was given time to recuperate before being lightly trained and prepared for the race. She was sent sitting eggs and was in great condition upon arrival. She wins 1st club 1st section and 1st open Cork Federation.
Mulcahy Bros.
Jim Willis opened his account at 15:40 and he timed his 4 year old blue cock to win 1st Mallow Club and 2nd Federation. This cock was sent for his first time on the channel and everyone knows the calibre of bird Jim keeps. A former Thurso national winner on the north route Jim has let everyone know direction doesn’t matter his pigeons perform from all routes. Jim has previously timed from St Malo and The Kings Cup race points in previous years.

Neil Crehan & sons
Fourth open again went to Neil Crean & Sons at 16:14 just 10 mins. behind their first arrival this cock is indeed a good yearling having been timed from the yearling national where he won 11th Federation and 79th south section INFC. His breeding is Flor Engles. He wins 3rd club 3rd section 4th open Cork Federation.
Back to the Mulcahy Bros for the 5th arrival this pigeon a 2year old chequer busscheart cock was the partnerships club winner from Mauchaline in Scotland only a fortnight earlier so they were indeed glad to see him. He wins 4th club 4th section and 5th open cork federation.
Five day birds were recorded but the arrivals didn’t stop coming at 8 am the Mulcahy Bros again hit the target when bird number three lighted on the landing board this hen was always consistent and was expected by the brothers. Again she is Busschaert based and these birds always perform well for the lads she wins 5th club 6th open cork federation.
Morey Bros.

This game hen had won 1st club and 8th open cork Federation from Mauchaline in Scotland a few weeks previous and now had won her club for the second time from the channel.
