St Leonard & St Ives Presentation.
Hi everyone, hope your all doing ok. Going round Weymouth town centre earlier In the week I could certainly feel the winter chill in the air , so much so that I’m considering adding a drop of whiskey in my tea , purely for medicinal reasons you understand !Down here in “Hardy Country “ the presentation season is full swing and on Saturday the 23rd of November members and guests of the St Leonards an St Ives Racing Pigeon Club gathered at the Bridge House at Longham to celebrate the clubs success in the 2019 racing season.
What a joy it is to see this great competitive club really embracing the true and positive nature our hobby and just enjoying their pigeons in an evening filled with banter and laughter which has been the hallmark of the club throughout the whole racing year. We all sat down to a traditional roast dinner and I must say it was very tasty indeed , during the course of the meal everyone said how much they had enjoyed racing this year and for this a huge thank you must go to the club secretary “Dorset’s leading lady “ Mrs Jenny Mills who not only is an excellently efficient secretary for the St Leonards and St Ives but also a tireless worker for the Dorset federation.
I will state it on the record here and now that if every club had a Jenny at the helm then our sport would be all the better! You often hear it said that the sport of pigeon racing isn’t what it used to be , my answer to this pessimism has always been , like life, pigeon racing is only what you make it , and having had the privilege of spending many a Saturday in the sun with these fanciers let me tell you dear reader that the members of St Leonards and St Ives give their sport a hundred and ten percent.
Thank you all for a lovely evening and wishing you all the best for the 2020 racing season.
There is always a great deal of work which goes into organising the racing season and of course as we know the transporter is an essential element to this, but what do we do with it during the closed season? Well unlike most feds which have to find somewhere to keep their transporter and may have to pay storage costs which are expensive, the members of the Dorset federation are extremely fortunate that they are able to keep the lorry at Blue Birds Social Club and as a show of gratitude the federation recently gave a donation of £500 to the club to let them know we really appreciate the use of the secure space to keep the transporter.
That’s all the news from Hardy country for now , until next time wrap up warm and remember I can only write about it if you tell me about it, so make sure your in it when they print it .
Its nearly Blackpool
