1st & 2nd Open for B Hogg & Sons in Skibbereen Derby
The first of the two inland Skibbereen Derby events to close the Combines 2022 racing season was flown on Friday 2nd September and once again the weather was the deciding factor in going for the Friday . The convoy of just over 700 birds were released into a light Westerly wind at 8am which saw the winning birds velocities in the 1400’s .
What a race it was for the Newtownbreda partnership of B Hogg & sons who had two arrive together for 1st & 2nd open ,1st & 2nd West section with their next arrival in at 34th open & West section with the open winner also winning the 2bird club .
Once again, the West section lofts dominated the Open result with the top 40 places going to a number of lofts in this section . Dundonald’s Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Brown and son Stephen had another great race with birds winning 3rd,15th,16th ,17th , 27th & 30th open and section .
4th open was Mark Foulis who also had birds at 13th ,14th,38th & 40th open & section
Belmont’s D & L Jackson & Dtrs had two together for 5th & 6th open & section with further birds at 25th,42nd,43rd & 48th open .
Having just won 1st & 2nd East section from Talbenny for the second year the Annsborough husband & wife team of Geraldine repeated it again from this Skibbereen race when they timed two nestmates almost together for 1st & 2nd East section 41st & 44th Open a pair of Vandyke birds of Cannonball bloodlines down off birds from Annalong’s Kevin Rooney ,son & dtr .
Bangor’s David Shaw was 3rd Section followed by Annalong’s John Trimble with grandson Zac then two more Bangor Birds with Lambert & Stewart at 5th Section & Reggie & David Moore 6th Section .

The Hogg family had a really great win from Skibbereen for not only did the winner win the Combine but also won the 2 bird club and they had the pleasure of having their other 2 bird entry finish at 11th in the 2 bird club . Dundonald’s Mr & Mrs Stephen Brown and son also had both their 2 bird entries in that club’s result .
