A 4^th open win for Newtownbreda Partnership

The final race of the EDC 2022 programme was the Ken McConaghie Skibbereen Young Bird Derby which was flown on the 10^th September and is named for the late Ken McConaghie who had been the Combine chairman for many years and it is hard to believe that this was the 10^th anniversary of this race and to mark this landmark a very big thank you to Ken’s Son Geoff who very kindly donated a special prize of £100 for the best 2 bird average in the race, to be calculated on time and distance . The race itself saw the convoy being released at 9.47am ,after a 2 minute silence had been observed as a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth 11 .

The winning blue pigeon and the only bird to make over the 1300ypm mark was to the partnership of I & A Cousins & Albert of the Newtownbreda club giving them their 4^th EDC Open win of the season the others being 1^st open Talbenny 1 in the old birds ,1^st Open Navan 2 & 1^st open 2^nd Gowran Park with Skibbereen giving them a fitting close to a great season .

2^nd open was Dundonald’s M/M Stephen Brown & son and they also have had a great season and from this race they had a further 8 birds in the result with two together at 7^th & 8^th open followed by 2 more together for 13^th &14^th Open and then a further four birds to win 15^th ,16^th ,24^th & 25^th Open.

At 3^rd open another loft needing no introduction that of Mark Foulis from Dundonald and he too had further birds in the result at 6^th, 9^th ,10^th 11^th & 22^nd Open with Ballynahinch’s Abernethy & Turner in at 5^th open . The first 25 birds in the open were into the West Section with the 1^st East section bird being to Comber Social’s Gary Lyttle at 26^th open with 2^nd And 3^rd East section to the Cloughey partnership of C & H Cully .
