JOHN KIRK & SONS TAKE TOP 3 FROM THURLES

After the 2nd Tullamore race the EDC organised a comeback race the following Wednesday also from Tullamore to give fanciers a chance to get later birds started and we will look at this in a moment but the next race and the 5th of the 2019 YB season was on Saturday 17th of August from Thurles . As I was out of the country on holiday for this and the following few events I will be playing catch up ,so let’s start with Thurles where 3,385 birds were competing and with a fresh SW wind this proved a very speedy event with a 7.45 am liberation the Open winner recorded a velocity of 2203 ypm which is well over the 70 mph . It proved a great day for the Ballylesson partnership of John Kirk & Sons who were 1st ,2nd 3rd and 7th Open & West section . The Crossgar partnership of McCartan & Woodsides were 4th ,10th ,11th and 18th open 4th ,9th,10th and 14th West section .

In the East section the top three were Harper & Young Cloughey , Gordon Bros & Sons Cloughey and Lambert & Stewart Bangor . The full Open section and nominated results were :

The first of the two Tullamore midweek comeback events was flown on August 15th with the birds being released at 8.30 into a fresh Westerly breeze which saw another speedy event with pride of place going to the Cloughey loft of Harper & Young closely followed by Portavogie’s Young & McCormick with Downpatrick’s Jack Crossan having the first nominated bird and the Dundonald team of BCT Foulis & Gill having the first in the West section .The top places in each were :
