Gordons 1st Open Skibbereen Derby

 

The East Down Combine birds competing in the Joe Ringland Skibbereen Classic left for Skibbereen on Friday 17th May with the race scheduled for Saturday May 18th which saw the weather in the East of the country unsuitable for a race so the birds were held until Sunday morning when they were released at 8am into a light NW wind.

 

The Cloughey lofts of Gordon Bros & Sons are enjoying a great season and follow on from their recent successes by winning the Skibbereen Derby with a blue chq cock which 2 weeks previously had won 11th open EDC Fermoy and was racing on roundabout. As a young bird he won 39th open Roscrea 7021 birds. He is from the Gordons Wynants pigeons and is a grandson on their NO1 pair.

 

The runners up from Skibbereen are the Annalong partnership of John Trimble & Son who also win 6th open and this is another loft in top form having already been 4th open Mallow again being runners up to the Gordons, 14th open Fermoy and 3rd open Thurles.

 

 

In 3rd spot it is the Killyleagh partnership of P & C McComb who top the West section and for comparative newcomers are making their presence felt whilst at 4th open and 2nd West section it is the Newtownbreda partnership of T Marshall & son.

 

 

 

The top six is completed by Downpatrick’s Phillip & Courtney McCullough.

IDEAL CONDITIONS FOR TULLAMORE COMEBACK EVENT

The Combine held a midweek comeback race from Tullamore on Wednesday 22nd May when the birds were released at 10am into a light SW wind on a perfect racing day and it was an ideal start for birds which had not had a race so far this year.
