ROONEYS GET SEASON OFF TO GOOD START

The 2016 season got underway on Saturday April 9th with the opening race of the season from Tullamore . Saturday dawned a cold bright morning with a light SW wind and the promise of heavy showers later in the day so the birds were not released until 10.30 am to allow the sun to bring a little warmth and yet to give the birds time to get home before the showers, which in some cases were of hail and snow , to get going . As you can see from the velocities the birds made good time and it was a good start to the season .
Leading the field with 1st and 2nd open were the Rooney family of Annalong with two birds just breaking the 1700ypm mark . Cloughey?s Gordon Bros & sons got their season off to a fine start with 6 in the top dozen of the Open . Staying with Cloughey and Harper & Young ,never far from the top have three in the top twenty of the open .

The leading birds in the open were in the East section . The West Section was won by that top fancier John (JP) Patterson who once again proves that age is no barrier to achieving top results .
It was a good start to the season and with the weather now having gone downhill again it is to be hoped that it will pick up again for the second race of the season which is again from Tullamore and by all accounts may have a cold Northerly wind for the birds to fly into.
