SUCCESSFUL DOUBLE BILL FOR EDC
The weekend of June 7th saw the East Down Combine hold two races but once again the weather played havoc with the plans for Saturday’s racing and it was decided to go for the Sunday if it was at all possible for these two events. The birds were competing in events from Talbenny in South Wales and Mallow in Southern Ireland. With favourable winds early on Sunday morning both races got underway with the Talbenny birds being released at 7.15am and the Mallow convoy at 7.30am. In Talbenny the wind was a strong SE which resulted in a very fast race with the open winner in excess of 2100 ypm. Mallow although also having South in the wind resulted in a slower event.
From Talbenny and leading the Open in the Combine is the Newtownbreda partnership of D & D Chew on a velocity of 2121 and this was followed by fellow club member E Salmon on 2096 with the top 5 birds in the open Breaking the 2000ypm mark. On a good day with the right wind Talbenny can be a very fast race point as was the case this time. The top five birds were to fanciers in the West Section with the first East section bird being to the Donaghadee loft of D & K McCutcheon for 6th open. Although this as I said was a very fast race, anyone that I have spoken to was happy with returns etc.
Mallow was the slower event and at present the provisional result that I have gives the top three as 1st Gordon Bros & Sons Cloughey HPS 1549.4, 2nd J Patterson Ballylesson HPS 1547.0, 3rd Harper & Young Cloughey HPS 1540.6 and these are three well known lofts out in front. More on this next time.
