More success for the Gordons

The 5th race of the Young bird season was from Thurles in Co.Tipperary and Saturday August 12th was a suitable racing day with a North West wind blowing to bring the leading velocities down to just over the 1300 mark and the 5,000 or so Combine birds were away at 10.30am .

Again this week the leaders in the Combine were the Cloughey partnership of Gordon Bros & Sons who take 1st and 2nd open ,1st and 2nd East Section and are enjoying yet another super season . Dundonald’s Jim Young & ptnrs have the next two open places which are the top two in the West section and these are followed by two more Dundonald pigeons to Roy Irwin . Moving then to the Hillfoot club for 7th open won by Jackie Skates and he is followed by two together to Ballylesson’s Gillespie Bros with the top ten Open place and 3rd East section to Bangor’s Cliff Stewart (Lambert & Stewart). The Cloughey partnership of Cully & Monan won the 2bird from Mullingar and then were 2nd and 5th from Tullamore having both their entries in the result and from Mullingar Dundonald’s Jim Young & ptnrs also had both their entries in arriving together .

This week the Combine moves on to Fermoy and this is followed by a return the next week back to Thurles and 2 bird members who entered the Golden ring race this Thurles is the race it will be flown for .
