HORSE & JOCKEY WON AT OVER 1800YPM
The 3rd race of the season saw the EDC at a new site for them ,the Horse & Jockey ,some two miles beyond Thurles. Thurles not being available and great credit to Brendan McLoughlin who had measurements with clubs before the race was flown which meant no delay in having the result available in Saturday. The race itself was flown as scheduled on Saturday June 20th but again the weather was the deciding factor in the release time as Saturday later in the day saw a forecast of very strong winds and heavy rain so it was no surprise to hear the birds were up at 7.30am into at this stage a light Southerly wind freshening as the day went on and which saw the leading birds making over 1800ypm .
Early birds in the Open were to the clubs in the West section which saw a close finish between the Newtownbreda lofts of Tom Marshall & son and Dundonald’s Cowan & McCartney with Tom having the edge. The next five birds were to Ballylesson members with veteran fancier John Patterson winning 3rd ,4th and 6th and having several more in the Open result ,not bad for a fancier over 90 years young . Staying with Ballylesson at 5th open were K & B McConaghie &son and 7th Open were Cousins ,McConaghie & Albert . Belmont club was again represented in the open top ten with D & L Jackson & Dtrs 8th open .
