Young Birds off to a fast start
This has been a very unusual season with one race following another very quickly with several weekends holding two events and I have the greatest sympathy with those having the job of compiling results especially in classics etc . The weekend of July 25th saw the start of the 2020 Young Bird season with the opening race from Navan and this is to be followed by the Old Bird Derby during the following week from St. Malo and then the second young bird race on the next weekend .
From Navan the youngsters were released at 8am into a West wind which took the leading birds out onto the East Coast with the Cloughey ,Portavogie and Annalong clubs having the majority of the early ones with the ever present Cloughey lofts of Harper & Young having the open winner on 1790 , followed by the Portavogie partnership of R &G Thompson with the next two for 2nd and 3rd open and these were the top three in the East Section . Dundonald secured the top two in the West Section with
Myles, Kincaid, McCann & Auld the first of these and Cowan & McCartney 2nd West Section with Ballylesson’s John Patterson in 3rd spot .
