R Moore & Son (Bangor) 1st & 2nd Open Skibbereen
The First of The East Down Classic races was flown on May 29th from Skibbereen and with a light SE wind the entry of 1100 plus birds made good time from the 12noon liberation . Leading the Combine with two birds together for 1st and 2nd Open were the Bangor father & son partnership of Reggie & David Moore who had yet another brilliant race and who are having a great season and I say this because so far this season included amongst their many successes are -from Mullingar they won the first five places in the East Section and were 13th to 17th in the open . From the Horse & Jockey they were 3rd & 4th Open 1st and 2nd East section whilst in the 2 bird club they won 2nd &3rd Mullingar 2nd & 4th Horse& Jockey and 3rd Mallow.
From Skibbereen in addition to being 1st & 2nd they were also 6th ,8th and 31st and some details on the breeding etc. of the birds at 1st 2nd 6th and 8th are as follows.
Skibbereen Classic Winner Blue Hen “Blue Angel”
She had flown the entire old bird programme prior to basketing.
She is from a son of the “Ceusters Cock” their current No.1 breeder bred by A. Devlin when paired to “Victoria Pendleton” a double grand dtr of Dirk Van Den Bulcks famous “Kittel” from “Kittelena” & “Geraint Thomas”. Her dam is a “Angel of the North” a double grand dtr of “Rode Angel” bred by Kevin Parsons from the best of Dirk Van Den Bulck via Flanders Breeding Ireland, she is also a grand dtr of “Jack Daniels” the sire of “Herbies White Kittel” winner of 1st National Skibbereen 2017.
2nd Open (1st Open Nominated) Blue WF Hen
Again this hen had flown the entire programme prior to basketing and had won 1st Club, 1st Section, 13th Open Mullingar this year, also previously having won 1st Club, 1st Section, 35th Open Tullamore as a young bird. She is a dtr of the “Danny Cock” a Gson of Danny Van Dykes “Kanon” when paired to the “Mario Hen” direct from Syndicate Lofts being a dtr of “Mario” & Ivy”.
6th Open Blue Hen
This hen was 2nd Club, 31st Section, 49th Open from Mallow the previous week, she is the last racing dtr of one of our best breeding cocks “Ed” direct from Ed McGimpsey of N’ards and he carries the best of Jeff Greenaway blood. Her Dam is “Ruby” a full sister to 1st Open Ulster Federation Skibbereen YB Derby from J Ward & Son, Belfast,
8th Open Blue Wf Cock
This young cock was 4th Club, 4th Section, 16th Open Mullingar this year beaten by loft mates, his sire is a direct Emiel Dillen, Belgium and dam is “Frilled Dakota” one of the last dtrs of our super breeder “Dakota 801”, she is also a full sister to 4th Open INFC Skibbereen Old Bird National.
In 3rd Open and following closely on the 1st & 2nd open birds is Roy Irwin of Dundonald and then it is back to Bangor for 4th & 5th open through the lofts of Lambert & Stewart & Burgess & Brennan . Congratulations to all the winners and please forward on details photos etc of your winners.
