HARPER & YOUNG START YB SEASON IN STYLE
The 2021 young bird season got underway on July 17th with the first race from Navan on what turned out to be a record day temperature wise with the hottest temperature in the UK being in the East Down Combine area at the now famous Ballywatticock not too far from the clubs on the NE coast of the Combine and it was to one of these clubs, Cloughey ,that the Open winners were recorded .
With very high temperatures expected the Combine officials had the birds away into a very light NW wind at 7am before the heat built up and whilst the leading birds were recording velocities in the 1500’s some of the later arrivals came in later in the day when it was not quite so warm.
The East Section coastal clubs had all the early positions ,in fact the East section took all the Open places with Cloughey’s Harper & Young taking the top 7 Open places plus 10th open 
with the Portavogie partnership of Robert & Glenn Thompson 8th & 9th open
with Jim & Ronnie Young having the next 3 at 11th ,12th & 13th open . 
With the East section claiming the open places the best of the West went to the Killyleagh Central partnership of P & C McComb 
followed by B Hogg & Sons with Belmont’s Albert Gregg having a particularly good race .
