The Yorkshire Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire SR combine
The Combines last old bird race of the 2021 restricted season was again at the channel island of Guernsey were the birds, as always, were in the hands of Yorkshire’s finest Mr William Ward with the support of the Steve Teasdale pigeon transport team. The team had previously visited the island and liberation site this season a few weeks prior so they knew the drill of the ferry and en-route trip so the pigeons welfare were attended on the stops and on arrival that they knew back at the furthest south road flying race point in the UK and this race took place on Friday and the ferry crossing booked a day earlier due to the access of the liberation site being limited with all the south coast south road organisations booked onto the site for a Saturday liberation and the site only being able to accommodate three transporters at a time.
The YND combine had the liberation site all to themselves on the Friday of the liberation so on the 16/7/21 3,919 birds were liberated at 06.30am into a north wind. The top 22 positions in the Combine were as follows; taking 1st spot & 2nd was the Doncaster Donny Sky Devil of Gary Beaumont. Gary is already a previous YND combine winner from across the channel and participates with the Doncaster South Road Federation. This old bird season he has topped the federation six times in the old bird season and in his local club of Moorends Comrades FC, he has won 10 out of the 11 old bird races. Gary only races 16 widowhood cocks and he says they have done him so proud this season and could ask no more from them with their performances and Gary being in Ill health at times with his condition the birds kept their own at the top as quality naturally dose. Both Gary’s birds were Leo Hermans from Brian Johnson’s Stock and are both already multiple club and federation scoring birds and are both blue widowhood cocks his first a 3y his second a 4y were they flew 293 miles with velocities of 1372 & 1279.
