Yorkshire Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire SR Combine
The YNDC held its last 2021 season race with the young birds flying from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. This has been for many a challenging 2021 young bird season but still some impressive birds were still left to send and so they were, the regular Steve Teasdale transporter was on hand again with Steve Barry in charge with William Ward of the Leeds Amalgamation as regular convoyer on holiday taking a break so on the 11/9/21 874 birds were liberated into a west south west wind at 08.00am Variable on the channel.
The top 22 positions in the combine were as follows and claiming first spot after achieving 2nd open combine 2020 Young Bird Carentan was David Stone of the Mr & Mrs Stone partnership of Nether Heage Belper Derbyshire flying 249 miles from Guernsey Dave’s winner was a blue pied Darkness flown hen that also achieved 1st North Derbyshire SR Federation & 1st Heage flying club the hen was bred by the kings Lynn Norfolk partnership of Stevens, Thompson & Simper were the partnership bred and swapped a few youngsters with Mr & Mrs Stone this season the Kings Lynn partnership have a direct pigeon bred Sylvain Verhestraeten from Herentals Belgium off the Dirki 004 bird who is a direct son off Sylvain’s Champion Jaguar 7x 1st prizes and 1st Belgian Olympic Speed Brussels 2017. Mr & Mrs Stone have now called this hen the Guernsey Girl and have informed us her breeding is she is a great granddaughter of Dirki 004 and would like to thank Stevens, Thompson & Simper for breeding her for them her winning velocity was 1373.

2nd & 17th combine flying 290 miles claiming 1st Big Barnsley Federation & 12th big Barnsley Federation plus 1st Featherstone FC was Jeff Sykes from the successful partnership of Hardaker & Sykes which achieved many great achievements together but unfortunately Trevor Hardaker due to health reasons packed pigeons up but Jeff wanted to continue both Jeff’s scoring birds were flown on the Darkness system with both sexes left together on natural and both his scoring birds are of his own created strain that are bred from a foundation pigeon called the Gilly hen which has won Ample and bred ample prize winners and hence the name she was bred by Gill & Sons of Castleford with velocities of 1370 & 1272.
3rd combine plus 2nd big Barnsley Federation & 1st Queens HS was Mr & Mrs Burton flying 281 miles their bird a blue white flight cock on the Darkness system paired up sitting 9 day old nest eggs when sent to the race he is a Herman Cuesters X Leon Bores his father a Herman Cuesters from Rob Coney of Castleford and his mother a Leon Bores from Roy Mulligan of Armthorpe Doncaster their scoring velocity was 1359.

4th combine plus 1st Little Barnsley Federation & 1st MonkBretton FC was Higgs & Crossland flying 285 miles with a blue cock which was on the darkness system left with both sexes together in the young bird section and this cock was just starting to pair up to a young hen prior to him being sent in this race he is bred from a pair of pigeons obtained from Terry Higgs of Rossington Doncaster his velocity was 1353.
5th, 18th & 21st combine plus 3rd, 13th & 15th big Barnsley Federation flying 295 miles was Kevin Palfreyman Kevin informs us these were flown on the Darkness system and he intended in separating both sexes to race but unfortunately after the third young bird race they contracted young bird sickness and after curing them and getting them back racing Kevin just left them together his first scoring bird a home bred Herman Cuester X a John Woods of Royston Barnsley bird Kevin’s next two scoring birds were two young birds purchased at the annual big Barnsley Federation Futurity young bird sales the first a bird bred by Cleanon & Hanson & the second being bred by Mally Jaques Kevin won £4,900 in the Futurity Kevin’s velocities were 1338, 1265, & 1261.

6th combine plus 4th Big Barnsley Federation was HW Firth & Son flying 294 miles doing 1330, with a Gabby Vandenbeale hen flown on the traditional natural young bird system she was starting to show interest in pairing to a cock in the young bird loft before being sent to this race.
7th, 13th & 14th combine plus 5th, 9th & 10th big Barnsley Federation Was Chris Gordon flying 293 miles Chris also with his first bird won the big Barnsley Federation annual young bird Futurity race claiming £6000 and his second bird also won him £600 so in total he picked up a nice £6,600 his first bird a chequer pied hen which is of his sprint family kept of Lewis Thijs and it was bred for Chris by Dave McDonald of Bradford from a pair of Lewis Thijs Chris lent Dave to breed with Chris’s second bird a chequer white flight hen which is one of Chris’s own created Distance family of birds from out his Classic and National winning family and this hens mother is a granddaughter to Chris’s NFC Tarbes winning hen Snydale Express and Finally Chris’s third bird was little blue hen which was a home bred Lewis Thijs Chris’s young birds were flown separated on the sliding door system on the Darkness system his velocities were 1323, 1289 & 1280.
8th combine was Dave Broxup flying 295 miles plus claiming 6th Big Barnsley Federation and 2nd big Barnsley Federation Futurity winning £4000 plus 3rd Heavy woolen Federation and 3rd Rothwell FC Dave’s bird a Van Hertem Schuurman X a Simon Parkinson bird her father from Simon Parkinson is a son from off Simon’s MNFC winner and her mother a Van Hertem Schuurman hen which Dave has raced and achieved 11th YNDC over 5000 birds for Dave plus many other positions and first opens she was flown on the Darkness system with both sexes left together and this hen Dave informs us was just starting to pair up with a young cock prior to this race she was fed on the Vanrobeys corn mixes which Dave highly rates her velocity was 1317.

9th combine plus 7th Big Barnsley Federation was S Metcalf flying 276 miles doing 1308.
10th combine was Robert Barraclough & Son flying 282 miles plus also achieving 1st Stocksbridge Federation 2nd Little Barnsley Federation & 1st Penistone FC with a chequer cock flown on the darkness system left together with the hens to do as he pleased and he was just flying back to his regular perch he is of Robert’s old faithful De Klak strain his velocity was 1306.
11th & 22nd combine was Dennis Brigg & Son flying 294 miles plus also achieving 8th & 16th Big Barnsley Federation and 2nd Featherstone FC his their first bird a Grizzle hen which is bred from a pair of stock birds obtained from Maid Marion lofts of the Mitchell Brothers of north Nottinghamshire and Dennis informs us this pair have now been paired up together for 3years now as most bred from out this pair win for them their second bird a blue hen which is a Franz Zwols which is bred from a pair of stock birds obtained from Kings Way Lofts of Willy Donachie of Dundee Scotland Dennis informs us his young birds were flown on the Darkness system separated on the sliding door system and their velocities were 1302 & 1256.

12th combine plus 2nd North Derbyshire federation & 2nd Heage Fc was T & J Mather & Haywood flying 251 miles their bird a blue cock flown on the darkness system left together on the natural system in the young bird loft Tony informs us this cock two weeks prior to this race was sent to Yeovil and he returned and landed in full darkness of night to his shock his breeding is down from birds of Euro Diamond & the late famous Dennis Ford’s Seren Eleven bird of South Wales he is also a cousin to the partnership’s 2017 north midlands continental club open winner the bat out of hell. 19th combine was Graham Simpson flying 295 miles plus 14th big Barnsley Federation & 1st Cutsyke FC & 5th big Barnsley Futurity winning £1,500 the bird a little Smokey blue hen flown on the Darkness system with both sexes left together in the young bird section flying back to the perch or paired up this hen flew back to the perch her breeding is from a gift cock given to Graham from Adrian Rudock of Castleford of a Syndicate lofts bird and her mother is a Franz Zwols from Ivan Sterling of Featherstone Wakefield Graham’s velocity was 1263.
20th combine was Ian Wagstaffe with a chequer hen flown on the darkness system with both sexes left together she was bred and given to Ian by Peter Inkle of Wirksworth Derbyshire she also claimed 3rd North Derbyshire federation & 1st Wirksworth HS flying 250 miles doing 1263.
