TNNRA held its first old bird race of the season from Hexham race course in Northumberland where £902.40p was on the table in the amalgamation at £1 a bird to be distributed into the four sections but due to the avian bird flu restrictions posed by DEFRA most fanciers including myself in the affected zones in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire could not race any old bird pigeons for this race organisation members of the amalgamation of the Derbyshire North Road federation, The South West of England Lerwick Club, The Welsh North Road Federation, The International Championship Club, Hucknall Premier FC,  Ashby & District FC and Ilkeston South section FC birds all met at Hexham and were liberated all together at 10.25am into a north east wind on the 4/6/22.  

Birds duplicated at fanciers choice were done so into the amalgamation and the top ten positions now in each four sections were as follows; In the west first with the section top 10 and open claiming 1st TNNRA open and 1st west section plus 2nd open South West of England Lerwick Club 1st SWELC Yearling classic race 1st Bristol West FC 1st section E and 11th open in the International Championship Club was the partnership of A & D Collins flying 244 miles with a 1y blue roundabout system flown cock which is bred from newly obtain stock birds of the partnership from Gilbert Heijnen of Holland. Their winning velocity was 1577.

2nd section plus 2nd open TNNRA and 5th open SWELC 2nd Bristol South FC and 20th open 3rd section E in the International Championship Club was Chris Templar flying 245 miles with a 2y chequer widowhood flown hen being a Lambrecht’s which is bred from a direct son and daughter pairing from off the famous Snowball bird Chris’s velocity was 1570.

3rd open TNNRA and 3rd section was Dave Smith plus 1st Thornbury FC 7th open SWELC and 40th open and 5th section E in the International Championship Club flying 234 miles with a 2y blue roundabout system flown Soojen cock with a velocity of 1556.

4th section and 5th open in the TNNRA was the Wells Family flying 246 miles plus also 9th open SWELC 3rd South Bristol FC 59th open and 7th section E in the International Championship Club with a 1y blue hen with a velocity of 1536. 5th section 7th open in the TNNRA and 1st Bridgewater FC and 10th open SWELC was Mr & Mrs Baker flying 260 miles with a 2y blue cock doing 1530.

6th and 7th section plus 8th and 9th open in the TNNRA and 13th and 15th open in the SWELC 8th and 9th section E 69th and 72nd open International Championship Club was Alan Meacham flying 244 miles with his team of Dirk Van Den Bulk widowhood cocks with velocities of 1523 and 1521.

10th section 12th open in the TNNRA plus 22nd SWELC and 84th open 16th section E was Chris and John Adams flying 238 miles with a 4y Blue wall Lunt and Green strain widowhood cock doing 1510.

To the centre section now and winning the section plus 3rd section and 76th and 121st open in the TNNRA plus 1st and 2nd Ashby club was Tommy Wainwright flying 154 miles with velocities of 1425 and 1348 both Toms scoring birds are newly south road turned birds to the north road this season and were natural flown hens of his own created strain of pigeons which are Jan Arden and Bushart based 2nd section 100th open in the TNNRA plus 1st Ilkeston South section FC was Dave Woods flying 169 miles with a 3y blue white flight natural flown cock that is of Dave’s own strain family of pigeons created with a velocity of 1383.

4th section 137th open plus 3rd Ashby club was Dean Fantom flying 159 miles with a 6y chequer hen which is a Bushart originating from John Crowder stock flown on the roundabout system and she when flying south road has flown and carded for Dean twice from Massac her velocity was 1316.

5th and 6th section plus 142nd and 143rd open in the TNNRA was George Chaplin & Sons flying 159 miles with velocities of 1300 and 1299.

7th, 8th and 10th section and 144th, 149th and 167th open in the TNNRA was Mohamed Ayaz Mohamed has turned all his old birds north road this season and also achieved 2nd, 3rd and 4th Ilkeston south section club flying 171 miles his first bird a 1y chequer pied hen that was bred by S & M Cook of Hull from their own successful distance family crossed with the Geoff and Catherine Coppers famous distance lines his second a 1y blue white flight hen being a home bred Bushart crossed Jan Arden and his third bird a 1y mealy hen which was bred by Jonny Heath of Cannock out Jonny’s national scoring south road mealy cock Mohamed’s velocities were 1298, 1280 and 1244.

9th section and 164th open in the TNNRA was P & D Wainwright flying 155 miles with a natural flown 1y blue hen turned north road this season and her breeding originating from the late Ian Workman of Ashby Jan Arden’s David’s velocity was 1249.

Over to the north section top ten winning the section plus 22nd open in the TNNRA plus 1st Derbyshire north road federation and 1st Pinxton NRFC was J & S Dangerfield flying 132 miles with a south road turned around 1y blue pied hen flown on the widowhood her father being a Van Loon and her mother a Franz Zwols which was a gift hen from the late Brian Evans of Selston  her velocity was 1499.

2nd, 4th, 9th and 10th section plus 26th, 46th, 65th and 68th open in the TNNRA plus 1st, 2nd and 4th Hucknall premier FC flying 138miles was Shaun pilgrim with his team of celibate flown hens which are paired up to Shaun his first bird a 2y chequer hen followed by a 2y chequer pied hen and these being both Lambrecht’s from off the late Rob Horton of Tamworth and the first one won the TNNRA in 2020 and the second one was 2nd open in the TNNRA 2020 Hexham old bird race 1 in 2021 his third a 2y blue hen which is a Granddaughter off the syndicate loft Drum bird and his fourth a 2y Chequer Kevin Lawson of Ollerton  Herman Cuesters Shaun’s velocities were 1495, 1467.728, 1437,& 1433.

3rd section 39th open in the TNNRA plus 2nd Derbyshire north road federation and 2nd Pinxton NRFC flying 134 miles was Keith Orton & Son with a 1y chequer jealousy system flown hen which is a Pitbull line bred bird from stock birds obtained from Danny Jepson of Poolsbrook doing 1474.

5th section 47th open in the TNNRA plus 3rd Derbyshire north road federation 3rd Pinxton NRFC and 3rd Hucknall premier FC was Derek & Ryan Nuttall flying 135 miles with a 2y blue cock that was bred by Kevin and Donna Spires of Nottingham and is a Syndicate loft based bred and was flown on the roundabout system doing 1467.052.

6th section 51st open in the TNNRA was Kevin Ward plus 1st chesterfield Stute NRFC and 4th Derbyshire north road federation flying 123 miles with a feilex Powell Jansen from the Pickett Brothers stock of a 2y chequer roundabout system flown hen doing 1462.

7th section plus 61st open in the TNNRA and 2nd chesterfield Stute NRFC and 5th Derbyshire north road federation flying 119 miles with a 3y mealy pied widowhood cock was Mick Herbert with Dirk Van Den Bulk that was bred and gifted to Mick from the partnership of Jepson & Bennet of Poolsbrook Mick’s velocity was 1447.

2nd and 6th section plus 5th and 38th open in the TNNRA was the partnership of Howells & Johnson flying 235 miles with velocities of 1538 and 1475.

3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th section and 20th, 23rd, 37th, 41st and 58th open in the TNNRA flying 242 miles was Terry Hayward with his celibate flown old bird team with velocities of 1504, 1499, 1476, 1472, and 1453.
