Nottingham North Road Federation
On Saturday the 6th of June it was the federations first 2020 seasons old bird race this was being flown from Harrogate in North Yorkshire for the around 60/ 80 mile mark for a race for most federation members the weekend forecast was forecast quite wet and poor with most local federations cancelling their racing altogether or some racing Sunday and even Monday but the federations race committee and weather man Kevin Lawson with their knowledge and contacts saw a window of opportunity to have a race and this call came true. You just cannot really believe the weather situation as before racing was allowed to commence the weather here in the UK was probably better than in Spain and Greece and the second racing began we reverted back to the UK’s most favoured weather of yes you guessed it rain so time to put the BBQ away in the shed with your Christmas tree. On the morning of the race at Harrogate it was glorious sunshine and after liberation of the birds it was see below pictures and route home by Doncaster good weather but on route on the birds home turf areas was heavy rain showersSouth Sheffield and Chesterfield areas the race advisor Kevin Lawson and convoyer Ian Daikin were just waiting for a band of Heavy showers to move away the south of Wakefield near Barnsley and we would be away. Once the showers had eased it was all systems go! With the birds being liberated at 08.40am by Ian Daikin into a strong west north west tail wind that also helped the birds apart from a lot of west wind. The birds did hit patchy showers well past half way but did come through these very well with most lofts having mini cluster batches of birds dropping at their lofts even the furthest Leicester situated members at the Syston club were probably their birds flew through the most rain as further south you went the worst the rain was before it moved back into the north all clubs reported good constant returns with full purchase’s reported so a well enjoyed race was achieved for the federations members. To the result 60 members sent 879 birds. It was the Ollerton club members taking all the glory with the Newark club boys biting their tails just behind them.
Taking the federations first prize honours and 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th and 9th federation was the Ollerton partnership of Riggott & Richardson with their widowhood cock team doing with the first two birds coming together on 1748 then 1745, then three birds together on 1738.
