The second old bird race now to report on this was being flown from Coventry in Warwickshire and due to a poor weather forecast  on the regular race day of Saturday the race was put back 24hours and was held on Sunday the 7th of June when 40 members sent 716 birds that were liberated at 06.05 am on a fine glorious sunny morning into no wind with a clear line of flight being made from 5am from the race advisor. Taking the glory and strutting around the winner’s enclosure with taking 1st ,2nd ,3rd and 6th was Alan Meacham of the Brislington NRFC his scorers were all widowhood cocks. His champion being a 2y chequer Dirk Van Den Bulk that was previously 5th club on Tuesday from Stratford Upon Avon his winning velocity flying 86 miles from Coventry was 1383. His second was his brother a stunning red cock see photo he came seconds after his brother also on 1383. 3rd is a 3y blue Stefan Lambrechts doing 1387 he was also 8th in the race previous his 6th scoring bird a 2y chequer cock which is a Dirk Van Den Bulck X Lambrechts his sire is a Grandson from Donkere Leo of the Van Den Bulcks his Dam a Lambrechts hen that topped the Lerwick club as a young bird. Velocity of 1369. Taking 4th,5th,7th and 9th was Dave Smith of Thornbury NRFC with his team of Paul Stobbs based Sootjens flown on the roundabout system flying 76 miles his first bird being a 1y chequer hen that is bred by local club fancier of Ken Whittingham by using one of Daves top Sootjen hens crossed with Ken’s best stock cock that is of Irish decent were they both shared the young birds bred equally her nest mate as a young bird in 2019 achieved 3rd in the south west open young bird special from Berwick at 290 miles and scooping Dave some decent prize money in which this event brings to the table.his velocities were 1376,1373,1368 and 1360. 8th and 13th club was Jody McKay of Bridgewater and of Bridgewater NRFC this is the furthest flying club in the organisation and some of its members stretch deep into the south depths of the Medip Mountains Jody flies 115 miles in this race his first bird was a 2y chequer cock flown on the roundabout system and he is a Dave Smith Soontjen crossed with a Gabby Vandenabeele from fellow club member Wesley Sellways high performing cock on the North and South Route for Wesley. His second bird a 2y chequer pied roundabout cock which is a Page Brothers Gabby Vandenabeele the son of the 10 year old cock that Jody informs me he has sired 25 first prize winners for himself and Wesley Sellway and a few friends velocities of 1364 and 1340. 10th club was Wesley Sellway of Highbridge in the Bridgewater club his bird was a 2y blue hen flown on Wesley’s own version of the jealousy system she was a gift young bird for Wesley to try from Jason Bateman of Bristol and she is a Marcel Wowters strain this hen has also flown the south route previously in the NFC from Fourgeres 215 miles with achievement of 172nd open 25th section G as Wesley sends his birds to both Scottish north road distance race points and French south road distance race points in this race Wesley flew 108 miles doing 1357. 11th and 12th club was C & J Adams of Bristol in the Sodbury Vale NRFC flying 79 miles their first bird a 2y chequer widowhood hen that is a Silver Shadow line of the Van Loons she has previously won the Lerwick club as a young bird his second bird a 2y chequer widowhood hen which is a Hardy Kruger and she was their first bird for them the race previously flown velocities of 1343 and 1342. 14th club is Steve Robbins of the Oldland NRFC flying 83 miles with a 2y chequer cock doing 1340. 15th club was P. Hatherell of the Sodbury Vale NRFC flying 78 miles with a blue cock doing 1336. 16th and 19th club was Ken Whittingham of Patchway Bristol in the Thornbury NRFC both his birds were natural flown black Walter Dox hens sitting 10 day old eggs. Flying 80 miles doing 1334 and 1332 17th Club was Roger Flew of Downend Bristol in the Sodbury Vale NRFC flying 80 miles with a home created strain over the years 2y blue hen flown on the Natural sent sitting 7day old eggs doing 1333. 18th and 20th club was Luis Palacious-Ribes of Yate Town in the Sodbury Vale NRFC flying 76 miles his birds were two blue 2y 2018 late bred hens and this was their second race in their flying career they have ever flown the first bird was a Staff Van Reet his second a Staff Van Reet cross Jansen which is bred from his 2019 5th open New North Road Amalgamation open Thurso cock flying 525 miles plus 1st club his velocities were 1332.995 and 1332.332.
