The South West of England Lerwick Club Report - 02-09-20

On Wednesday the 12th of August the organisation held its second Young bird race of the season from Coventry (1) which is around the 80-110 mile mark for most lofts in the organisation.

On the race day morning the sunshine was out and a clear line of light provided so at 08.15 into a light variable wind the birds were released. To the top twenty positions now on winning the organisation and also taking 2nd, 3rd & 4th was the partnership of A & R Smith where they also achieved 1,2,3,4 in the Sodbury Vale NRFC flying 81 miles with a combination of Dave Smith bred Soojens & Dave Clark Jansens that are now shining through for the partnership with velocities of two birds landing together on 1575 and then another two birds landing together on 1574.

Taking 5th open club and first Thornbury NRFC and also 15th, 16th & 17th open club flying 85 miles was Peter Harkness his first bird a blue pied Leen Bores X Soojen hen then a Delbar X Soojen blue white flight cock were both came out the stock loft followed by two own created family young birds bred from out the race team all young birds are flown on natural system with both sexes left together doing velocities of 1559, 1505 then two birds together on 1504.

6th, 9th, 10th & 18th open was Mr & Mrs Ken Davey flying 80 miles their first bird a blue Red Star Lofts Gabby Vandenbeale hen, their second a blue pied Ponderosa stud Van Loon line bred hen their third a blue Jansen hen and finally their fourth a grizzle silver shadow van Loon hen all flown on natural with velocities of 1536, 1514, 1513 & 1496.

7th open was Peter Keedwell flying 75miles with a blue cock doing 1528.

8th open was J Cole flying 80 miles with a chequer hen doing 1527.

11th open was Ken Whittingham flying 80 miles with a blue Darkness system flown cock which is a Franz Zwols originating from Ivan Sterling Stock of Featherstone Yorkshire velocity of 1511.

12th, 13th & 14th open was Dave Smith flying 76 miles with all three of his birds being Paul Stobbs Soojens flown on natural with velocities of two birds dropping together on 1509 and then 1507.

19th open and first Oldland NRFC was Steve Robbins flying 83 miles with a Blue Van Lint cock originating from Brian Olver stock from Bristol he was sent sitting three day old eggs flown on the Darkness system with a velocity of 1492.863

20th open was Peter Allen flying 83 miles with a blue Jansen cock that originates from his late twin Brothers birds of Jim Allen this cock was sent taking a liking to a old hen bird in the YB section his velocity was 1492.701.
