The Welsh North Road Federation held its second old bird race of the season scheduled from Shrewsbury but at the race point was low cloud cover, over cast cloud and drizzle rain with poor visibility and this was forecast to stay for the day so to play it safe and get a race and prevent a hold over for the pigeons the birds were dropped back to Ludlow race course were the transporter was greeted with sunshine, after the birds were left to settle and water reapplied to the birds the head convoyer released the birds on the 15/5/21 at 14:00 hrs into a south west wind.
The top ten in the federation was as follows continued at the top for the second week was the T Hawkins Family team taking 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th , 9th & 10th federation with their team of celibate flown hens & cocks the federation winner was 1y hen bred by John & Dave Zerk of Cardiff and the nest mate to this bird topped the federation last year in 2020 as a young bird from Marlborough flying the east to west route their second bird a 2y hen was bred out their stock loft from out their year 2000 purchased Belgium based family of Bourgigons the third bird was a 1y cock John & Dave Zerk bred bird again their fourth bird is the sister to their second bird and this hen achieved third federation last week previously from Ludlow their fifth bird is a late bred hen bred by Andy Kidd of Newport their sixth bird being a 1y cock bred from out their stock loft of the Belgian original imports and finally their seventh bird a 1y hen bred by John Spurry of Newport and this bird achieved 4th federation the week previously from Ludlow the partnership flew 57 miles with velocities achieved of 1276, 1258, 1180, 1177, 2x 1176 & 1175 breaking the Hawkins Family up to achieve 2nd, 4th & 5th federation was Hadden & Son with their team of natural flown old birds their first bird a gift bred bird bred by John Sparry of a 3y cock sent sitting nest eggs he originates from John Walker of Cannock stock bred birds from the blue Demon Soojen lines their next two birds being two natural Herman Cuesters Cocks that originate from the Premier Stud stock birds the partnership flew also 57 miles with velocities of 1270, 1255, & 1182.
