The New North Road Amalgamation

The North Road Amalgamation held its first joint old bird race with a warm up race at Hexham racecourse Northumberland before climbing into Scotland later in the season.  This was at the 140- 250 mile race point for our members in the central Midlands, west county and Wales. Head convoyer, Mr Humphries, got the main Amalgamation liberation underway on the 5/6/21 at 07.15am into blue skies and sunshine with a light westerly wind on the liberation site.

The top 10 birds in the sections were as follows in the North section, Centre Section, West Section and the Welsh Section. In the North Section it was a clean sweep for Shaun Pilgrims Sprint collection of all Celibate flown Hens flying 138 miles and winning £223 with his first bird achieved 1st open & section was a 1y chequer hen that achieved 2nd open & section last season as a young bird from Berwick with the amalgamation.  She is a Kevin Lawson of Ollerton Lambrecht’s X with the late Rob Horton of Tamworth Lambrecht’s.  His second bird, another Lawson X Horton Lambrecht’s takes 2nd open & section, his third bird a granddaughter out of the Syndicate Drum takes 3rd open & section, his fourth bird a Kevin Lawson Van Loon x Soojen takes 4th open & section, his fifth bird another granddaughter out the Syndicate Drum takes 7th open & 7th section and his 6th bird takes 8th open and section with another Kevin Lawson Soojen X Van Loon his velocities were 1494, 3x 1492 & 2x 1455.

5th open & section was J & A Cole of Radcliffe flying 145 miles and winning £20 with a natural flown 1y blue hen bred by Hubert Walker of Newark with a velocity of 1476.

6th open & section was D Nuttall & Son of Newstead flying 135 miles and winning £10 with a 3y Syndicate based widowhood hen doing 1473.

9th open & section was Mick Herberts of Poolsbrook flying 119 miles winning £5 with a 4y blue widowhood cock doing 1455.

10th section & open was Kevin & Donna Spiers of Wollaton flying 143 miles with a 1y blue hen bred by The Jutla Brothers of London and she’s a Dirk Van Den Bulck and this being her third race in her flying career velocity of 1446.

Other prize winners in the north section was Paul Spendlove of Chesterfield winning £78.

Over to the Centre section, taking 1st section & 28th open plus 10th section 77th open was Michael Thorpe of Leicester flying 165 miles winning £10 with his sprint based birds doing 1393 & 1154.

2nd section 36th open, 5th section 45th open 6th section 47th open flying 162 miles winning £4.25p was Brian Manning with his own natural flown strain birds with velocities of 1371, 1300 & 1291.

3rd section 43rd open & 7th section 53rd open was Mr & Mrs Pateman & Son flying 163 miles and winning £2.20p their first bird a 1y Flor Engles widowhood cock with velocities of 1318 & 1273.

4th section 44th open was Mr & Mrs Graham & Yvonne Winterton flying 163 miles with a 6y chequer cock doing 1311.

8th section 72nd open & 9th section 74th open was Dean & Grace Winterton flying 158 miles doing 1171 & 1161.

Over in the West section winning the section was the brother partnership of Chris & John Adams of C & J Adams of Bristol flying 238 miles they won £134 their winning pigeon a 1y widowhood red cock that flew Berwick 295 miles and scored well up in the South West of England Lerwick Clubs Berwick YB open Classic his breeding is a Coreman X a David Cowan-Talbot pigeon he achieved 1st section 48th open they also achieved 2nd section 49th open, 3rd section 50th open & 6th section 54th open their second bird a 1y blue chequer widowhood hen which also flew and Scored in the Amal YB Berwick 2020 she is a Wall Lunt & Green Jansen their third bird a 1y dark Coreman X Wall Lunt & Green Jansen widowhood hen and finally their fourth bird a 2y blue Coreman widowhood cock their velocities 3x 1285 & 1273.

4th section 51st open, 8th section 58th open & 10th section 62nd open and winning £83.38p was Dave Smith of Thornbury flying 234 miles with a mix up of Paul Stobbs Soojens X With some Gabby Vandenbeales in the shake up being round about system flown cocks and hens with velocities of 1283, 1253 & 1231.

5th, 7th & 9th section 52nd, 55th & 60th open was the A & R Smith partnership of Bristol flying 237 miles with their Frank Tasker & Dave Smith based natural flown team winning £10 with velocities of 1277, 1273 & 1243.

Other section prize winners were Andy George £4.50p, Mr & Mrs G Watkins £5.22p.

The Welsh Section now with all these members flying turned around east to west flown old birds taking 1st & 2nd section and 73rd & 76th open flying 236 miles was Sean Proctor of Newport winning £32 with his widowhood cock team with velocities of 1165 & 1155.

3rd section 78th open winning £9.60p flying 231 miles was A Gooch doing 1152.

4th section & 6th section and 80th & 86th open was Mark Phobium winning £34 flying 240 miles with 2 x Dirk Van Den Bulck widowhood cocks doing 1150 & 1145.
