Enfield Continental Flying Club Update
First of all I would like to apologise to the members for how long that it has taken to complete this write up, as I am continuing to have health issues with various trips to different hospitals as well as a severe bit of Covid.
Race 5 arrived, and this was flown on the 14th May from Exeter with 10 Members sending 121 birds which were liberated at 7am in a Light South West Wind. Taking 1st, 2nd & 3rd we had Bob Brock with a Blue Hen and 2 Blue Pied Hens. The first two being from Premier Stud stock and the third placed bred by Albie Stockwell. Taking 4th, 5th & 6th places we had Steve Holloway with a Blue Chequer Van Reet Hen, a previous winner of 2x1st’s. a Dark Chequer Geoff Barker Lambrecht Cock and a Blue Cock Lambrecht of Geoff Barker bloodlines.
Race 6 was a comeback race flown from Blandford on the 21st May, for this race 8 Members sent 124 birds which were liberated at 6.45 in a South West Wind. Taking top spot this week was Steve Holloway with a Blue Pied Geoff Barker Lambrecht Hen. Taking 2nd & 3rd Positions was Algis Tiataurus with a Dark Chequer Lambrecht Hen and a Blue Lambrecht Cock from Geoff Barker. Fourth Club was Steve Holloway with a Blue Pied Alwyn Hill x Padfield Cock, with Billy Watkins taking 5th & 6th Club with a Chequer Pied Cock bred off Simon Schofield stock and a Blue Cock bred by Simon Schofield.
Race 7 which was flown on the 28th May was a UBI Combine race which was flown from Guernsey.
The birds were liberated at 9am in a North West Wind. For this race 7 Members sent 87 birds. Taking top spot we had Peter Glass with a Dark Chequer Vandenbeele Hen. Second Club was Billy Watkins with a Chequer John Weldon x Dave Impett Cock. Taking 3rd spot was Arif Karibas with a Blue Vandenbeele x Kirkpatrick Cock. Finally taking 4th, 5th, and 6th positions was Algis Tiataurus with a Chequer Pied De Klak Cock, a Blue Geoff Barker Lambrecht Cock and a Chequer Home bred Cock.

Race 8 for Old Birds was flown on the 4th June from Blandford, and for this race 5 Members sent 63 Birds which were Liberated in a North East Wind at 11.30. First past the post this week was Billy Watkins with a Blue Cock bred by Simon Schofield. Taking 2nd was Algis Tiatauris with a Blue Geoff Barker Lambrecht Cock, previously 3rd Club Blandford & 5th Club Guernsey. Billy Watkins was next once again in 3rd with a Blue Cock bred by Les Jones. Arif Karibas took 4th Club with a Kirkpatrick x Jan Aarden Grizzle Hen. Finally 5th & 6th places went to Algis Tiatauris with two Blue Chequer De Klak Cocks.
Race 9 was another UBI Combine race from Guernsey which was flown on the 11th June, with the Birds being Liberated at 8.30am in a South West Wind. for this race 5 Members sent 61 birds. Algis Tiatauris takes 1st Club, 5th Inter Counties Fed, 12th UBI Combine 2101 birds with a Dark Chequer De Klak Cock. Steve Holloway was 2nd Club, also 37th UBI Combine with a Blue Geoff Barker Lambrecht Cock. Taking 3rd place was Algis Tiatauris who is continuing his excellent form with a Blue De Klak Cock. Fourth Club was Billy Watkins with a Chequer Cock bred off John Weldon x Dave Impett stock. 5th Spot was Steve Holloway with a Dark Chequer Padfield Cock. Finally in 6th we had Billy Watkins with a Chequer Cock bred down from Eric Corkett’s Lucy.

Race 10. Another comeback race from Blandford was next, which would be between 101-107 miles to the members. For this race 4 Members sent 57 birds which were Liberated at 7am in a Light NE Wind. Steve Holloway took the 1st and 2nd positions with a Dark Chequer Geoff Barker Lambrecht Cock & a Blue Chequer Van Reet Hen. Third Club went to Algis Tiatauris with a Blue Home bred Cock. Fourth spot was the ever keen Arif Karibas with a Red Chequer Van Reet x Jan Aarden Cock. In 5th we had Club Secretary Steve Holloway with a Grizzle Hen bred off a Hen borrowed from Peter Wells. Finally 6th position was Algis Tiatauris with a Chequer De Klak Cock.
Race 11. For our next race, on the 25th June we were at Yeovil with 5 Members Sending 69 birds which were liberated at 7.10am in a South Wind. Doing a 1,2 & 3 we had Steve Holloway with two Blue Chequer Van Reet Hens and a Blue Pied Geoff Barker Lambrecht Hen who was 1st Club Blandford. Algis Tiatauris took 4th,5th & 6th Positions with a Blue Chequer Cock, a Blue Cock and a Chequer Cock all De Klaks.
Race 12 on the 2nd of July was from Stoney Cross and 4 Members Sent 54 Birds which were Liberated at 6am in a South West Wind. Algis Tiatauris took the top spot this week with a Chequer De Klak Cock. Steve Holloway took 2nd & 3rd Club with a Blue Chequer Hen and a Dark Chequer Cock both Van Reets. Arif Karibas was Fourth with a Dark Chequer Busschaert Cock. Fifth spot was Steve Holloway with a Blue Pied Lambrecht Hen, with Billy Watkins in 6th with a Blue Hen bred by Tony Cripps.
Race 13 was the final Old Bird Race of the Season which was flown from Guernsey with the UBI Combine on the 9th July. in the Club 5 Members sent 57 birds which were Liberated at 8.30am in a NW Wind, with Billy Watkins taking a 1st & 2nd with a Blue Pied Soontjen Hen & a Blue Cock bred by Simon Schofield. Algis Tiatauris who was having an excellent season took 3rd & 4th with a Chequer Vandenabeele Cock & a De Klak Chequer Cock. 5th Club was Arif Karibas with a Red Chequer Van Reet x Jan Aarden Cock. Finally continuing his great week was Algis Tiatauris with a Blue Pied Home bred Hen.
Next to arrive was the first Young Bird race which was flown from Stoney Cross, with 4 Members sending 69 birds which were Libbed at 6.40am in a North Wind.
Taking the top 3 this week was Billy Watkins with a Dark Chequer Cock purchased at Lier Market, 2nd being a Blue Cock from Billy’s Bullet, 7x1st’s in 7 weeks. Bill’s third placed was another purchased at Lier Market. Taking 4th, 5th and 6th places was Jaio Figuiera with 3 Chequer Busschaert Hens.
The next race was flown from Blandford on the 6th August with the birds being Liberated at 6am with no wind been given at the lib site. Taking a 1st, 2nd & 3rd this week we had Billy Watkins with a Blue Chequer Hen with the Sire being purchased from the old BBC stud and the Dam from the Natural Breeding Station. Billy’s 2nd Club was a Blue Chequer Hen, a Granddaughter of Isla’s Rainy Day Boy, 1st National, 1st International Pau. and a Blue Pied Hen bred off Simon Schofield stock.in Fourth Position we had a new starter, Cassius Powell Davidson in only his second ever race, who is only 14 years old with a Grizzle Hen bred by Steve Holloway. All of the Members congratulate you Cassius on your performance, keep up the good work.

Blandford was next to be flown with Billy Watkins doing a clean sweep 1,2,3,4 with the winner being a Chequer Hen from Mark Bulled Stock. 2nd was a Chequer Wim Muller Hen bred by Johnny Black. 3rd was a Blue Lier Market Cock and 4th a Chequer Cock from Simon Schofield stock.
The final race that the members sent to was from Blandford, with the birds being liberated at 7.32 due to 2 minutes silence being held at the liberation site due to the sad passing of the Queen.
Taking top spot was Steve Holloway with a Blue Chequer Pied Padfield x Soontjen Hen. taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions was Billy Watkins with a Blue Chequer Hen bred by Freddie Smith, a Chequer Hen bred by John May and a Blue Chequer Hen bred by Bryan Cowan. Finally taking 5th & 6th Club was Steve Holloway with a Chequer Pied Jan Aarden Hen and a Blue Pied Maarten Vinkenborg Hen of stock given to Steve from Geoff Barker. The Grand sire winning 1st Bordeaux for Geoff in the Club when Geoff was a member.
