Enfield Continental Flying Club
Down at the Cabbage Patch we were eagerly awaiting our first Show which was going to be the First that we had held for about 5 Years, And Billy Watkins as well as Myself and Steve Sheffield were hoping that it was going to be a success as a few weeks earlier there was a few rumours going around that our shows might not happen, but at a Club Meeting the members were told that they were 100% going to happen and that we were hoping that all 20 of the members would support the Club over the 7 Sundays that they were being held.
Our First Show arrived and unfortunately the First Judge was unable to make it so a few Calls were made between Myself, Billy and Steve and I suggested a good replacement. The Man I suggested was Dick Burgin who is a very good fancier in his own right who flies in a partnership as Burgin and Marshall. This partnership has put up some excellent performances over the years including scoring highly in several national races. For those who do not Know Dick Burgin, He is the man who is has made the Inter Counties Federation the success that it is with the birdage hitting over 4000 some weeks, which is brilliant as some feds are struggling to get a 1000 birds each week and with more clubs applying to join the Inter Counties Fed each year.
The first show arrived and at the end of penning 43 birds had been entered and was better than anticipated due to it being on Remembrance Sunday, I for one went to the Local Cenotaph for 11am to remember our fallen then made the way straight away to our Clubs H.Q.
On arriving it was nice to see 2 former members had turned up, one being Brian Allen and his Wife Fran who have now moved to Harlow and still keep pigeons but no longer race them, and the other was Don Stocking and his wife Kath. Don no longer keeps pigeons but is still interested in them, and hopefully will return to racing again in the future.

After the show everyone stayed behind and had a few Beers, and we had our Raffle and lucky enough the prizes were shared around with other members in the Cabbage Patch who have no interest in pigeons, but they did that day due to seeing the birds in the Pens.
For our Second Show we was short of Billy Watkins as he had gone away to St Lucia, to which we were all well jealous as Bill was in the hot sun every day while all of us are shivering our bits off. The Judge that we had that week was none other than Johnny Black of Stotfold, formally of Enfield. Since John left Enfield in 2004 he has been racing South Road in the Baldock Club in the Inter Counties Fed as well as in the BICC & NFC. For a couple of years john raced in the MNFC and he also won 1st Open in the Yearling Race from Portsmouth, As well as 7 Section wins in the BICC & 3 Section wins in the NFC. Johnny brought an assistant with him, it was his Sidekick Paul “Eddie the Eagle” Loom from Wyboston another fancier who has won the NC section in the BICC several times and is always near the top of every section result. The Judging started over a hour late due to Johnny and Paul getting caught in traffic on the A1 as well as the A10 and we were all glad when we saw them arrive. At the end of Judging the results were as follows....
