Enfield Continental Flying Club Update
Down at the Cabbage Patch the first race of the season arrived with the Inter Counties Fed, and the first race of the season was from Salisbury which to most members is between 79 to 87 miles . For this race there was a low turnout with 7 members sending 136 birds due to members either being on holiday or not having enough training.
On the Saturday the birds were released at 13.30 in a SW wind and taking 1st place is the Clubs Secretary Steve Sheffield with a 5 year old Blue Wall, Lunt, Green widowhood Cock, 2nd place went to Jaio Figueira with a Blue Hen, 3rd place once again is Steve Sheffield with a Blue Chequer Lindelauf widowhood Cock, in 4th place is Geoff Barker with a 2 year old Blue Cock flown on Natural, this cocks previous performances include 1st Club Honiton, 3rd Club Blandford, 3rd Club, 12th Inter Counties Fed, 14th UBI Combine Falaise and 14th Fed Le-Mans. 5th Club goes to Peter Twyford with a 4 year old Mealy Cock who Peter says is his most consistent pigeon over the last few years, his position last year were 7th Club Blandford, 1st Club Honiton , 4th Club Honiton, as well as scoring in every year of his racing life. Finally with 6th Club is Jim Courtney with a Blue Busschaert widowhood Hen who was lost last year and returned home several months later after someone had got her in and had been breeding from her.
For our 2nd race the Inter Counties Federation put back the marking 24 hours so we marked on the Saturday night for a Sunday race. For this race we had a better turn out from our members with 12 Members sending 230 Birds. The Birds were liberated at 9am with no wind recorded at the liberation site. Taking 1st place is the Clubs Secretary Steve Sheffield with a 5 year old Chequer Lindelauf Cock who scored 3rd Club from Salisbury the week before. 2nd Club is Peter Twyford with a Mealy Busschaert Cock, a previous winner of 1st Club, 2nd Fed Lyndhurst, and 2nd Club Honiton, & the sire of this pigeon won 1st UBI Combine for Peter in 2011. Taking 3rd & 4th Club is Jaio Figueira with a Blue Hen & a Black Hen. Finally 5th and 6th places go to the Clubs Chairman Paul Stone. First with a Blue Braspenning x Tist Eyssen Janssen who has scored every season for Paul , and a Chequer Pied VDB x Braspenning who has been a consistent pigeon for Paul.
For our next race we will be racing from Blandford and hopefully by then we will have all of our members sending.
Finally before i end these notes we have received some very sad news, saying that a ex member Doreen Cowen had died. Doreen used to race many moons ago in the Club with her Husband Sammy quite successfully as well as being our Secretary as well as several Clubs in the area, and we send our condolences to all of Doreens family at this sad time.
