Enfield Continental Flying Club
Update
After a one weeks break of racing the First Young Bird race arrived with a short one from Salisbury which to our members is between 78-86 miles. For this race 10 members sent 157 birds. On the Saturday morning I received a phone call from Dave Housden from the Biggleswade club saying that the pigeons were being brought back due to conditions at the lib site. When the birds returned to Hemel Hempstead the Enfield birds were liberated so at least they had a training toss and a bit of experience on a transporter.
Our second race was from Lyndhurst and for this race, 9 Members sent 177 birds which were liberated at 6.30am with No wind given at the site. In pole position is Steve Holloway with a Red Chequer Van Reet Hen, who’s bloodlines originated at Louella Pigeon World. Taking the runners up spot is Paul Stone with a Tist Eyssen x Braspenning Chequer Cock. In third and fourth place we have Steve Holloway once again with a Blue Cock and a Chequer Pied Hen, both from Steve’s Van Reet family. 5th Club goes to new member Doru Burlacu who only joined the Club earlier this season. Doru’s pigeon is a Dark Chequer Desmet Matthys Cock. Finally in 6th spot we have Steve Sheffield with a Blue Busschaert Cock.
Race 3 with young birds soon arrived which was from Blandford to which our members fly between 97 to 106 miles. At the end of Marking 8 members had sent 133 birds, which were liberated nice and early at 6.15am in a South West Wind. Taking the Top 3 places is Peter Twyford with a Blue Cock, a Mealy Cock and a Blue Hen from Peter’s successful Combine winning Busschaert family, with these 3 containing the bloodlines of 1st and 2nd UBI Combine Kingsdown. Peter also won the Snowball and pocketed a few quid. Fourth spot this week was Paul Stone with a Blue Hen Braspenning x Tist Eyssen. In fifth Spot we have Billy Watkins with a Red Chequer Cock from Bill’s Wells Fargo family which came from Peter Wells from Dunstable who once raced the legendary Super Lou, winner of 52x1st’s. And finally in 6th place this week is Steve Sheffield with a Blue Busschaert Cock.
Race Four arrived with a race from Honiton which the members fly between 137-146 miles. By the end of marking 6 members had sent 148 birds which were liberated at 7.45am in a West South West Wind.
The winner for this week is Peter Twyford with a Blue Busschaert Hen which scored 3rd Club the previous week from Blandford. Second spot goes to Paul Stone with a Blue Tist Eyssen x Busschaert Hen, with the Dam being a Busschaert which was bred by Club mate Chris Vachos. In third place we have Billy Watkins with a Blue Hen, a gift bird from the Mitchell Brothers who has been named “The Dinner Hen”. Not sure why or how she got that name, I will have to try and find out. Fourth place goes to Steve Sheffield with a Blue Busschaert Cock. Once again in 5th place we have Billy Watkins with a Blue Chequer Hen, who’s nest mate scored 5th Club Blandford the previous week. These are Bills Wells Fargo family which were obtained from Peter Wells. Finally in 6th spot this week we have Steve Sheffield with a Chequer Busschaert Cock.
As the season is nearly complete, we only have another 4 races left in the Club including one channel race with the UBI Combine, unless the members decide to send in any of the Nationals, then it will soon be over for another season.
Until next time, take care.
