Enfield Continental Flying Club Update
Down at the Cabbage Patch the first UBI Combine channel race arrived which was flown from Falaise which would be between 183-195 miles to our members. The birds were marked on Thursday evening and at the end of marking 12 Members had sent 210 Birds with 3046 birds in total in the Combine. It turned out to be a hard race with some members having several losses. Our winner for this race also taking 12th Inter Counties Fed, 18th UBI Combine was Steve Williams with a Dark Chequer Van Rijn Hen. Steve Holloway was 2nd Club, 20th Inter Counties Fed & 28th UBI Combine with a Blue Chequer Van Reet Cock bred down from his original Louella birds of 2015 when he restarted in the sport. Steve Williams took 3rd Club, 44th UBI Combine with a Dark Chequer Van Rijn x Janssen Cock. Peter Glass took 4th Club with a Blue Cock from his own family. Taking 5th Club was Paul Stone with a Blue Jan Theelan x Van Der Wegen Cock bred by Dave Ramsay of Hazlemere. Dave no longer keeps pigeons as he packed up thru ill health. Finally in 6th position is Geoff Barker with a Chequer Pied Lambrecht Cock, a previous winner of 1st Club, 12th Fed Exeter, 2nd Club, 11th Fed, 13th UBI Combine Falaise, 1st Club,16th Fed Honiton, 3rd Club Yelverton, 2nd Club Exeter, 3rd Club, 14th Fed, 37th UBI Combine Guernsey & 1st Club, 8th Fed Falaise.
Steve Williams 1st Blandford 1st Falaise
The BICC had their next race from Poitiers and in the Club 4 Members sent, with Billy Watkins taking the Top 4 Places with a Dark Pied Cock from Bill’s Wells Fargo family from Peter Wells Stock, a Mealy Cock bred by Tony Cripps who took 2nd Club St Philbert, a Blue Pied Soontjen who took 1st Club St Philbert & a Dark Pied Cock who took 3rd Club St Philbert and is bred down from Les Jones’s & Dave Albon’s National winners.
Our next race was Officially the 1st Young Bird race of the season, but the fed was calling them an Any Age race which was to be flown from Lyndhurst. But on Wednesday I received a phone call from Dave Housden saying that the marking would now be on Saturday for a Sunday race as we did not have a driver for Saturday. I then received another call on Friday saying that the race had been cancelled altogether and that we would be racing from Lyndhurst instead the following Friday.
The following week we had 3 races, First the UBI Combine was racing from Le-Mans & Inland we were at Lyndhurst with all races being liberated on the Sunday. For the Lyndhurst Young Bird race 8 Members sent 237 birds which liberated at 7am in a South West Wind. Taking top spot was Steve Holloway with a Blue Lambrecht Cock, a Grandson of “Pedro” a winner of 5x1st’s for Steve. Taking 2nd & 3rd Club was Steve Williams with a Blue Chequer Cock bred by Dave Anderson of Kent & a Chequer Cock bred by John Turnell of Cheshunt. Fourth, 5th & 6th Club went to Club Secretary Steve Sheffield with a Blue Pied Gust Van Bell Hen, a Blue Pied Busschaert Hen & a Chequer Busschaert Cock. In the Old Bird race no members sent with most now concentrating on the Young Birds.
The UBI Combine birds were Liberated at 7.45 from Le-Mans with 7 Members sending 53 Birds. First & Second spot went to Steve Holloway with a Blue Chequer Van Reet Cock who took 2nd Club Falaise earlier in the Season & a Chequer Pied Van Reet Hen. 3rd Club was Paul Stone with a Blue Van Loon Cock. 4th place was Peter Twyford with a Blue Chequer Busschaert Cock. Fifth place was Steve Holloway with a Blue Van Reet Hen. Finally, in 6th Spot we had John Hore with a Blue Chequer Hen bred down from stock purchased from Ken Hine. This Hen flew Lerwick on the day last year.
The following week we were at Blandford with 2 races on the Same Day to be Liberated at the same time which was 6.30 in a West Wind. For the Young Bird Race 9 Members sent 210 Birds. Taking the winners Spot was Steve Williams with a Blue Chequer Van Rijn x Herres Cock. 2nd Club was Pail Stone with a Blue Chequer Tist Eyssen Cock. Third was Steve Williams with a Blue Van Rijn x Elton Brothers Janssen Cock. Fourth Club was Steve Sheffield with a Dark Chequer Busschaert Hen. 5th Club was Steve Williams with a Blue Jan Aarden X Hen. Finally 6th place Steve Sheffield with a Blue Busschaert Hen. In the Old Bird race only 2 Members sent with Billy Watkins taking the Top 4 Positions with a Blue Jos Thorne Cock, a Red Chequer Van Reet Cock bred by Steve Holloway, a Dark Chequer Southwell Cock bred by Tony Cripps & a Blue Chequer Cock off of pigeons from Simon Schofield & Peter Wells.
