MIDLANDS NATIONAL FLYING CLUB

MIKE LAKIN

2 Bird Nominated Ancenis Race 2014

Ian Jarratt Does the Double

How many times have we all heard the saying ‘I never saw that one coming’? Well Ian Jarratt certainly did because he had his Red Chequer cock ‘double banked’ into the ‘2 Bird Nominated race’ and boy did he deliver, beating all the other entrants in both races by a good margin with a speed of 1524. Ian is a retired policeman and after his son Robert ‘flew the nest’ has been flying solo since restarting racing in 2011. That said it was son Rob who came to dad’s aid when he had to miss the race due to a holiday booking in Turkey. He left the job of timing in to his son who he says he has ‘’taught everything he knows’’. I wonder if Rob would agree? In total there were 320 birds entered in the duplication race and the Jarratt Marcelis x Van Reet scooped up nearly £200 in prizemoney plus a handsome trophy. I think that Ian will need a bigger sideboard after the MNFC presentation in Doncaster!

The National and 2 Bird Nominated winner

2nd Open and 2nd SE section is filled by Robert & Peter Montila on 1489. As is the norm with these two lads info is like extracting teeth. So all I know is that they certainly know their pigeons because they nominated their 2 year old Blue cock from an entry of 28 pigeons. So very well done boys how about some news next time?

Taking 3rd Open and 1stNorth section with a velocity of 1468 is that man Nigel Laycock again with his fantastic pigeon ‘Northern Bound’. What can you say about this superb pigeon only 2 years old and with no less than 3 x 2nd and a 4th section already in the bag. Add to this a Yearling Classic Trophy and in 2013 he won 1st Open Middle Distance Ace Pigeon. After that lot you will realise why I seem to be continually be singing the praises of the Limbourg ‘Black Opium’ pigeon who seems to make winning look easy and believe me winning in the Midlands National certainly isn’t.

4th Open and 1st South Centre section is another man who keeps his achievements close to his chest and that man is Nuneaton’s Micky Lennon who timed his 4 year old Dark cock on 1451 flying a distance of 357 miles.

The other section winners who entered in the 2 Bird Nom race are: South West section C Leadbeater & Sons 1440, North West section Silvester Brothers & Tomkinson 1429, North East G Inger & Son 1417, West section R & B Smith 1393, East Section S & M Cook 1379, North North West section Joe Livesey 1294 and the East South East Steve Surrey 1235.

I must admit to being a little disappointed with the support from some of the sections but perhaps it is because the form isn’t clear enough, but it is when you know where it is. If you look it is the first column on the entry form in the handbook and is the N column to online entrants. Even though I say I’m a little disappointed it has already shared out over £6000 over the first three races but I know that it could be bigger and better because I believe it is the best bet on offer. I ask the doubters out there which other club will pay out as much as we do for a £5 per bird stake? Some don’t even pay that much out in total.
