NEWS FROM DARREN SMITH

Hereford OB Result 12/04/2014

Hello folks,
Welcome back to our race report round-up for season 2014. I always get nervy at this time of the year as the new start triggers feelings of when I first became your scribe. Hopefully the errors will be kept to a minimum this season as I endeavour to give you the best weekly results service possible. Welcome also to our new club the Tailors Arms whose presence will undoubtedly add quality and hopefully a great victory or two to our organisation in the seasons ahead.

North Liverpool Federation’s first race of the 2014 season took place from Hereford on Saturday 12th April. The birds were liberated at 10.15am in a west south west wind and a quick race was predicted. While there were many pigeons recording velocities in the early 1500 / late 1400s, others were made to wait slightly longer for their first arrival. Perhaps this was to be expected for the first race of the year.

Terry Snagg takes the first red of the new season at the Edge Hill (9/135) on 1488. His winner has previous form and is bred from his own bloodlines, the sire being a winner of 9x1st. Colin & Alan Baker take the next three positions with their team of widowers on 1458, 1435 and 1432.

John Pugh takes the first 4 positions in the Crosby & Blundellsands. All John’s timers are via his Campbell Brothers stock. Thanks Joe.

John & Gary Hartless and Paul Howard strike first at the Pirrie (7/167) taking 1st and 4th positions with a 2 year old dark cheq pied hen of Vandenabeele bloodlines. This Jimmy Hampson of Banks bred pigeon adds another red to a channel victory in 2013. The second timer is a 3 year old blue cock also bred by Jimmy Hampson and this cock won as a young bird as well as taking money in the Pirrie Gold Ring. Tommy Hibbs takes 2nd and 3rd positions with a yearling blue cock through Foxwood Lofts stock taking his first card and a cheq pied cock which has won in previous seasons, through Tommy’s brilliant White-Tail. Thanks Irene.

John & Alan Johnson and nephew Darren Pattison take the first red of the new campaign with a Vandenbeele x Docx widower through good friends Charlie McCardle and Terry Archbold. This bird has previous with 1st club, 8th NL Fed Messac as well as other prizes Fougeres and Carentan and nearly went as an extra because it has never been anywhere near the results on the inland, 1493. Roy Reid takes 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions on 1474, 1461 and 1457. The first timer is bred from a son of Darren Norris’ Golden Balls and a daughter of the No:2 Soontjen Cock, a winner of 9x1st and sire of 15x1st, bred by Kevin Moore of Macclesfield. This bird has been consistent for Roy winning plenty of prizes. The second and third timer are nest-mates bred from the Cloud, a sire of multiple winners bred by Galaxy Lofts and a daughter of All the 8’s a 1st North West Combine and Combine gold medal winner for Robbie Thomas of the Wirral. Thanks Darren and congratulations mate.

Charlie McCardle & Terry Archbold take top spot at the Netherton (6/107) on 1501 with a yearling blue Frans Zwols cock bred from stock purchased direct in 2012. This is his 1st card as he was only raced twice as a young bird.
