North West Classic Yeovil with Les J Parkinson.

North West Classic Yeovil with Les J Parkinson.

There was a lot of running around for the officials of the club for this race after the transport people changed the race date and race point on the Wednesday with basketing on the Thursday. They should have been going to Chale for a Saturday but due to weather reports the decision was made to move to Yeovil and have a race on the Friday. This affected quite a few members who decided not to send which resulted in 29 members sending 288 birds. It turned out there was no need to worry about the Weather on the Saturday racing from the South Coast to the North West was not too bad and they turned up well enough, it was a mixed bag for some as is always the case, especially in classic racing when they are from a much bigger area. Getting back to the Friday race when they were dropping in small batches to some lofts, when you read the following on who the winners are you will see what I mean.

1st 2nd 3rd 4th section and open go to G Holker & Sons from Swinton recording vels of 1623 for the first three and 1622ypm for the 4th placed pigeon. They won £927.11 in prizes and pool money, and they only sent 8 so a good race for the team.

The first 3 in section B were all racing to the lofts of Jimmy Hinchcliffe of Bury recording vels of 1546/1528/1527ypm. First of all, I would like to congratulate the winners, Holker Bros on a fantastic performance. Taking the first four places in a premier club like the NWCC is a great achievement. Now on to my section winner, he is a 2yo blue widowhood cock, I am pleased with the results because this is the first year, I have flown full widowhood. The change was made with there being a lack of channel racing this year I thought I would try one section on it. His sire has been a great racer and is bred from a long line of combine winning pigeons, while his dam has also won as a young bird and as a 2yo at club level. My 2nd and 3rd placed birds are also 2 widowhood cocks. They are only yearlings, so are still learning the system, but are bred for the job being Stefaan Lambrechts Van Den Bulck bred by Trevor and Kath Ramsden. I would also like to say thank you to all the officials for giving us classic racing in what has been an exceedingly difficult time.
