THURROCK FEDERATION

By Demolition Man

Week two of the Thurrock Fed race program with this weekend 19/04/25 booked for another trip to sunny Newark in Nottinghamshire. Unfortunately weather was not looking good for a Saturday race and with a long conversation with race advisor Marcin Grzedowicz it was decided that a Friday race would be a better option. So with a little email to the RPRA informing them of the change of race day, all was set for a Friday race from Newark only to be told by the RPRA that Newark wasn’t available for a weekday liberation. With me now pulling my hair out and a few phone calls it was decided to drop back to sunny Grantham in Lincolnshire a distance of around 100mls to the shortest flyers.

Steve Smith our trusted federation conveyer arrived on site at around 12:00pm with a conveyor of around 670 birds with a hundred up on the previous weekend. This ensured the birds getting plenty of rest, Steve was up around 5am getting himself prepared to give the birds their morning drink before liaising with race controller Marcin Grzedowicz a few phone calls down the line and a clear line of flight, strings were cut and birds were away 9:00am into a clear blue sky with a south east wind birds struggled to clear for around 5 mins but then broke and cleared towards home with the wind being on their nose once more an ETA was around 2hrs 20 min.
