NEWS FROM PACKMOOR & DHS 12 May 2017
THE HIGHEST VELOCITY FROM HULLAVINGTON ON THE DAY BY PACKMOOR
Everything went well this week at Packmoor where the birdage was up for the third week in a row with 399 birds from 16 members. We basketed on Saturday night for a Sunday race from Hullavington (what a good decision that was by the race officials) as all week we had cold easterly winds and on the Saturday it was also cold and overcast, so I was glad it was a Sunday race. Anyway on Saturday night we started the basketing 1 hour earlier with Rob Slack as usual doing a fantastic job getting the birds marked and sealed up ready for Geoff Silvester to arrive with the transporter.
Onto the race on the Sunday with the weather being a lot better and a light north wind for the race and a lovely blue sky, it was a great day for the racing.
Just after 12-30 the news came through that 2303 birds in the Moorlands Fed had been libbed, so after all members had been notified it was up to the lofts to wait for the birds. Well we expected it would take close to 2hrs 15 minutes for the journey to Packmoor, so we were looking out for the birds when we saw a single bird coming out for Packmoor, heading straight for Roberts Bros loft. It was racing all the way to the loft and trapped brilliantly, that was the time we expected them and we expected them to drop one after another. Well that didn't happen as it was over three minutes before we got another one and after that they came pretty regular but by the end of the day we were six short.
At Packmoor we strike the clocks around 7pm so when I got a call off Pete Bailey at 6-30 telling me he was at the clubhouse waiting to have his ETS read off, I thought he's keen must have a good un, anyway thought no more about it so Rob Slack got all the ETS and T3 struck off. As he started to read the times I thought we might be in with a chance here and that's how it turned out with Roberts Bros taking the red card on 1401.861ypm. The winning bird is a checker Lambrecht hen bred for us by Stu Innet from the Midlands. This bird won last year for us and was one of the six birds that came for us to take the first six places in the Fed last year, plus she has taken other prizes as well. A brother to this hen has also topped the Fed as well. As I have said earlier it was 3 min before we had another bird but that bird took second prize in the club, one minute later we had another to take fourth prize so it turned out a good day for us.
In third place comes Mr & Mrs R Taylor another top fancier in the Packmoor club they also take sixth spot as well Taking 5th is Dave Jones who has been 1st & 2nd in the two previous races and J & R Mclatchie won the nom £9.
With three races now gone and an average of 380 birds a week in Packmoor anyone is well pleased to take a prize and with Roberts Bros taking 1st & 2nd in the club and Provisional 1st Staffs Moorlands Fed (2303 birds) it has been a good race for the brothers.
The Result:
1st. Roberts Bros Vel 1401.861
2nd. Roberts Bros Vel 1368.672
3rd. Mr & Mrs R Taylor Vel. 1358.553
4th. Roberts Bros Vel. 1355.800
