NEWS FROM PACKMOOR & DHS
Greetings All.
All went well on the Friday night basketing with Rob Slack and the lads getting the 272 birds ready in plenty of time for the transporter and with the girls having the money end of things sorted out pretty early, it was time for a few beers and a bit of good banter.
Saturday morning and the weather was beautiful with blue skies and a light north west wind everything looked good for an exciting race from Hullavington
Just after 9 am the call came through that the birds had been libbed at 9 am in a light north west wind so, after the 15 members
who had sent had been notified, it was off to the cotes to wait for the birds. The distance from Hullavington to Packmoor is close
to 108 miles and with speeds expected to be between 48 to 50 miles per hour we anticipated them to be home at around 2 hrs 10 minutes.
Anyway up at Roberts Bros lofts 3 birds came racing up the fields from Packmoor and two of the birds trapped first time, not losing anytime
at all but the third bird landed on the roof of the loft had a quick look around before taking off to continue its way home. The first two birds were clocked at 2 hr 9 min approx and the birds just rained in after that, in fact of the 39 birds we sent 39 were back in the lofts within 30 mins - like all
the races in the Moorlands Federation this year it was an excellent race.
Up at the club headquarters on Saturday night everybody was in agreement that it had been a good race with good returns and when the result was printed it turned out Roberts Bros had takin 1st & 2nd in the race, the first bird being a Lambrecht x Willy Van Herck and she was bred at the lofts of Roberts Bros.
The hen is a granddaughter of Champion King Pin on one side and great granddaughter of Philip Boals number one pair of Van Herck’s on the other side.
This is the first red card for this hen but brothers & sisters have won previously for us.
The second bird on the clock is 100% Lambrecht that has already won us a second club beaten by a loft mate, this is from a new pairing and which we always thought they had got what is needed to win in top competition so, needless to say, there will be a few more bred the same way next year. In 3rd & 4th it is the in-form lofts of Dave Jones then Roberts Bros take 5th & 6th places.
The result
1st Roberts Bros Vel 1468.375
2nd Roberts Bros Vel 1467.808
3rd Dave Jones Vel 1463.920
4th Dave Jones Vel 1463.349
5th Roberts Bros Vel 1463. 282
6th Roberts Bros Vel 1463. 094
7th Roberts Bros Vel 1463 .094

That’s my lot for this week. See you after Ancenis
