D& G BRUTON (TREDEGAR)
1ST WELSH NATIONAL AND 1ST WELSH NATIONAL YEARLING
MESSAC
WINNING THE PROFF SPORT TROPHY ,THE MRS HOLPIN yearling CHALLENGE TROPHY AND DERBY ARONA TENERIFE SPONSORSHIP
The most challenging race of the 2019 season for the welsh national flying club was held recently from messac ,in central France
with basketing taking place on the Thursday evening the south wales contingent left Newport the final pick up point shortly after 10pm ,for the short journey to Chieveley service just off the m4 at Newbury to liase with the rest of the convoy from north wales and north west federations under the guidance and control of Dianne bonny and her experienced convoying team as they made the onward journey to the south coast for the early morning crossing into France
with an uneventful crossing and drive through the French countryside stopping off at various points to feed and water the cargo ,the birds arrived on site on Friday afternoon, everything was set for the following morning and with warm and humid weather forecast predictions were to get them away as early as possible
during Friday more transporters arrived on site heading for the uk so as daybreak Saturday came convoyers were pleased to see a clear morning very little or no winds on site and a clear channel ahead of them which lead to liberations commencing at 0600 uk time
it was shortly after 7am that we received confirmation that our drivers had cut and released their cargo at 7am and reported the birds cleared well
throughout the morning fanciers were estimating a flying time of six and half hours for the 270 mile journey going on the conditions of the day for the leading pigeons to be seen on welsh soil however as this came and went it proved that the warm humid conditions and the little wind that they had was playing a more challenging toll on the race as we awaited our first verification
Dean & Gerald Bruton and today winning pigeon
taking top honours with a time of 7 hrs 12min flying just over 280 miles we go to the Tredegar loft and partnership of dean and Gerald bruton recording the first of their entries on a vel of 1144 the winning pigeon which claims 1st open wining the proof sport Holland challenge trophy and the fourth of five free entries into the 2019 derby arona Tenerife one loft race is a yearling checker hen raced on roundabout with previous performance such as 90th nat maidstone yb, this year flying consistent in amongst the first couple of birds to loft winning 3rd club newbury 17th section, marlborough 6th club 16th sec 28th wnr fed vel 1711 and this week now 2x1st national positions ,the partnership are more than happy with the performance of this game hen and the rest of their racing team which are performing well at all levels here in wales. The sire has bred 7x1st winners direct from Gebr Van toor who the partnership thank Peter Fox for that, he is from Goliath and Las Vegas (daughter of Olympiad 003) this pair are responsible for many npo winners, the dam was from bred by the abertillery partnership of G Treharne & Son from and is son of den euro paired to Think of Me 1st National Saintes , 1st sec nfc the bruton team thank both parties for helping them blend a winning team of pigeons together responsible for an improved 2019 national season so far with positions such as from 3rd Nat Folkestone, 2nd National Fougeres and now 1st National Messac a dream season to say the least the partnership also went on to claim 5th open with their second arrival a yearling cheq cock the same way bred as the 3rd national folkestone originating from retired local bargoed fancier Iddy Davies and is bred through the same lines as 1st National Maidstone x Peter Fox daughter of Hannibal ,dean and Gerald would also like to thank everyone that has texted phoned, email etc to congratulate them on their recent achievement
ANDY KIDD 2ND & 4TH OPEN
for 2nd and 4th open we go south to Newport as andy kidd timed two consecutive pigeons the first being a yearling roundabout dark cheq cock which comes down from stock obtained from the retired fancier mel mayo of bargoed down through the black bob lines whilst crossed with the marshal & marshal partnerships machine and mucking fagic lines of james parker of reading whilst this pigeon hasn’t really made a name for its self in recent races within the national or federation its flown the programme consistently hence why andy took faith in him to enter him in todays race ,the second arrival at the loft taking 4th spot is a 2 yr old blue cock again on roundabout also comes down from the james parker of reading again consisting of the marshal and marshal machine lines mucking fagic lines
staying in Newport claiming 3rd open we have the husband and wife partnership of mr & mrs Upham, Kevin and Sandra timed in a yearling on a vel 1109 which is of bussheart cross Lambrecht down from Steve maylett of Manchester crossed Hayden minett , they also had the pleasure of timing in a second arrival shortly afterwards which will take 6th open this being bred down through the uphams whpu queens cup winner and again crossed into the hayden minett bussheeart family
with the main race winners highlighted, also running today was the mr mrs holpin sponsored messac yearling national with entries duplicated from the main race , with 136 pigeons entered and a distance of 280 miles the winner of this event claiming two national wins in one we have d & g bruton with their gallant yearling cheq hen taking the spoils once again on a vel of 1144 and again amongst the winners in 4th with their second arrival ,andy kidd with his first arrival takes the runner up spot on 1139 as mr mrs upham takes 3rd , all of the above were covered in the main race round up above so we move on to 5th and its w holpin and son of Abergavenny who claim this position with a yearling cheq cock bred for them by jones and moulds from Merthyr of staf van reet bloodlines ,
w.holpin 5th yearling national
rounding off the the top six we go to the pontypool trio of scammel and peploe & Bromley timing in a cheq cock being a double g.son of the partnerships “nearly cock “ this was its second channel crossing from messac in as many weeks where it recorded 5th sec 12th national
on clock checking there was a feeling of disappointment as lofts struggled to come to terms with their returns for reasons we still don’t know ,maybe it was the heat or birds just drifting off line and having to work back in , however some feared better than others at clock checking with 50% or so and with more turning in by nightfall and with a few coming the following morning the outcome wasn’t so serve
this weeks star performance which we report on weekly for fanciers who have achieved a recognition for their lofts performance ,we go to Adrian durham from abertillery sending just four pigeons and fortunate to record two of which high up in the result in on 1071 and 1070 velocities in 12th and 13th positions ,in his first race of the year with the wnfc
A Durham 12th & 13th open
so as we look forward the birds are safely on their way to the longest race of the year our blue ribbon event from Bergerac around 500 miles to most lofts under the control of the central southern classic fc ,hopefully the weather will be favourable and we will see birds on the day or early into day two either way we once again await the announcement of the winner from such a race
additional information has been received from Dianne bonny head of our overseas transport this year regarding our final old bird race from cholet , we were informed there was a problem with the liberation site and therefore this race was rearranged for a slightly shorter event from Carentan ,from this we will hopefully be able to congratulate the first ever winner of the dougie rooke memorial trophy for the old bird average winners
