 HALL & MACCULLAM

(BARGOED)

WINNING THE R.G. DAVIES WINNERS TROPHY

Its race day three for the welsh national flying club as we make our way over the channel for the second time heading a little further south to Fougeres an approx. distance of 240-250 miles

With basketing taking place on the Thursday evening and following a consistent flow of entries coming through the marking stations we were all set for departure for the journey south for the early morning channel crossing from Portsmouth Friday morning and on making contact with the boys convoying they informed us that they experienced  a calm crossing and  following disembarkment they were parked up in the services just a few miles from the port ,taking a break whilst the birds once again  took on water ,in preparation for the final leg of the drive to the liberation site  On arrival on site they were again amongst good company as shortly afterwards more transporters from the uk arrived including our north wales counterparts whom we had once again agreed to liberate alongside bringing a greater pull during the journey into Wales.

05.30 A lovely morning on the south coast Poole harbour prior to liberation

With all the conveyers on site coming together that evening discussing the prospects of an early liberation based on the good conditions and increasing temperatures expected , they dually agreed  confirmed amongst themselves to commence liberations from 6am and too  which order they would do so if conditions were proven favourable 05.30 A lovely morning on the south coast Poole harbour prior to liberationSaturday morning. At first light both here in the uk and on site  the conditions were described as perfect for pigeon racing and the best we`ve had for many weeks with blue skies a light east south easterly breeze with un-interrupted conditions over the channel ,this was endorsed by contacts in northern France and on the island of Guernsey and fanciers located on the south coast  as agreed the first liberation got underway at 6am followed by a second at 6.20 ,prior to our agreed allotted liberation time of 06.45 with the north wales pigeons ,with the birds airborne, the conveying team reported a clean get away as the pigeons made their way north in  the direction of the French coastline and mainland uk  with the south coast and the route through Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and the welsh borders experiencing temperature predicted to reach 25 degrees as the day went on, we were pleased to get the birds away nice and early.

Graham Poyner

Gary Poyner 4th open in 6th with a vel of 1614 ,we have the inform partnership of Theo Pulis and Richards from Abertwsswg who maintain their top flight performance with a yearling cheq cock flown on roundabout  a pigeon gifted to them as a yb from the Swansea fancier Norman Berdet similar origin as there pigeon from Carentan two weeks previous, this is the second channel race this cock has flown this season for the partnership and on both occasions has been amongst their leading arrivals no doubt one to watch for the future although the conditions were near perfect ,once again the channel provided a difficult challenge for the birds for some unknown reason as returns were well spread  and whilst as always the leading pigeons made good times and velocities for the back markers they seemed to struggle as temperatures rose during the afternoon to 25 +degrees thankfully  more dropped in throughout the day  up until night fall ,and it was also good to hear at clock checking the members appreciation to the convoyers in the conditions they returned .

Theophulis & Richards partnership

Theophulis & Richards partnershipEach week we like to mention an individual who stands out in the results away from the winners last week we included the photo of young liam lewis with his father sending one pigeon to Carentan and clocking him  this week we go to one of  our furthest members west  in todays event appearing in the result,at the loft of clive copp and granddaughter tracey flying into beddau west on Pontypridd, timing in 8th position ,their arrival being  a 4yr old  grizzel cock on 1608v  bred down through eric bevan stock of Pontypool whilst the dam originates from the late Dennis ford of Blaenavon, clive has in previous years has enjoyed his participation within the wnfc which has come through  his organisation in wales fly’s mid week therefore working Monday to Friday he is unable to take participate  in his own federation races , therefore found his enjoyment within the wnfc ,a regular visitor to the pill rpc on marking nights clive would like to thank the members for the warm welcome and hospitality they give him and others and congratulate all the winning pigeons on their achievements today

Clive Copp & g-dtr  tracey 8th open

Clive Cpp & g-dtr  tracey 8th openas a bonus this week our members were also able to have a side nomination for three new training crates for a small fee of just £1 per entry these were won by non-other than the race winners hall and macullam. In two weeks’ time with have a double whammy event on the race programme as we head to messac with two races in one ,the main event sponsored by proof sport Holland when the wnfc have again held its prices to just  £2.50 per pigeon and a duplication yearling race sponsored by our chairman will holpin  and his good lady for a mere £1 entry , duplicated through main race so potentially two winners could emerge out of this one on the day ,  for this we will come under the direction and transport of Dianne bonny and the north wales and the west organisations who will convoy and liberate our entries from messac and again in a few weeks time from cholet so until then we leave you as always with a few early times from fougeres below    as part of the continued commitment by the welsh national committee our  strategy for 2019 was to support the family man to compete at the highest level with minimal outlay ,what we describe as affordable racing and weekend hobby, with such we are pleased to see old members coming back on board and a few new faces joining us whilst maintaining an average birdage and payout week by week ,
