Saturday April 20th was the date for the opening race of the season from Cheltenham for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation. Our convoyer Alys got the pigeons away at 12-05 in a light northerly wind.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 7 members sent 188 birds and having a great opening race to the season was Mick Stone ( Glyn & Glenda ) making a clean sweep doing 1385,1384.9,1384.7 & 1384.5 . 

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 12 members sent 204 birds with Mick Stone taking the first two positions with the red card going to a two year old blue cock doing 1302 followed by a two year old blue cock doing 1301.In third were John & Steve Hicks with a two year old b/pied cock doing 1300 with Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) in fourth with a yearling cheq hen doing 1297.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 113 birds with club secretary A.Peach & Son making it a good start to the season making a clean sweep taking the first four positions with a 5 year old blue cock doing 1281.6 to take the red card followed by a yearling cheq hen doing 1281.1 then a yearling blue cock doing 1280 with a three year old cheq hen in fourth doing 1239.

Saturday May 4th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Frome and the pigeons were liberated at 12-05 in a light south easterly wind turning westerly en-route.

Holbrook Miners Welfare had 10 members sending 248 birds and this turned out to be another brilliant performance form Mick Stone, Glyn & Glenda making it back to back wins with another clean sweep taking the first four positions with their pigeons well in front of the field doing 1856,1855,1834 & 1833.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society getting a podium finish was the loft of S & H W Hall taking the first three positions. Stans winner was a yearling blue cock doing 1799 followed by a yearling ch/wf hen doing 1798 then a two year old cheq cock doing 1797.In fourth were Mr & Mrs Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) with a three year old blue hen doing 1794.

It was the first of the clubs show races and taking first prize was Mick Stone with a three year old blue cock doing 1743 followed by Fred Stevenson in second with a three year old cheq pied hen doing 1703.In third were Mr & Mrs Houldsworth ( Alan & Liz )with a two year old cheq hen doing 1685 with Mick Willis & Family in fourth doing 1682 with a five year old blue cock. Stewart Wainwright took fifth position with a yearling cheq cock doing 1645 followed by Shenton Brothers ( Ron & Norman ) in sixth with a three year old cheq cock doing 1621 with Mr & Mrs J & K Phillips in seventh with a yearling mealy cock doing 907.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 8 members sent 149 birds with P & S Harrison ( Peter & Shirley ) taking the red card with a yearling dk cock doing 1796.Taking the next three positions was A.Peach & Son with a 4 year old dark cock doing 1767followed by two yearling blue cocks both doing 1766.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Reading and the pigeons were liberated at 11-00 in a light south west wind. In Derby Premier two members sent 15 birds and making a clean sweep Were Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ).Their winner was a seven year old cheq hen doing 1719.8 followed by a four year old cheq hen doing 1719.5 then a three year old blue hen doing 1690 with a four year old blue hen doing 1613 taking fourth.

Saturday 11th May and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Yeovil and were liberated at 09-15 in a south easterly wind.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 8 members sent 155 birds and getting a podium finish was Kevin Matthews with his first three pigeons doing 1389,1387 & 1382 .Taking fourth doing 1377 was Mr & Mrs K Salt.

Osmaston Park Homing Society had 17 members sending 273 birds with Dave Waddington getting the red card with a yearling cheq cock doing 1380.In second was last week’s winner S & H W Hall with a three year old hen doing 1377 followed by Mr & Mrs P Todd with two three year old hens doing 1374 & 1364 to take third & fourth.

In Etwall & District Flying Club it was a clean sweep for Steve Billings. His winner was a two year old mealy cock doing 1327 followed by two blue, two year old cocks doing 1309 & 1304 with a three year old cheq cock doing 1300 to take fourth.

Heage Flying Club who fly with the North Derbyshire Federation had 12 members sending 319 birds and getting the icing on the cake winning both the clubs he sent in was Kevin Matthews taking the top two positions with his first two pigeons doing 1477 & 1476.In third was E A & D Gibson doing 1475 with Russ bailey in fourth doing 1467.

Sunday 19th May and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Weymouth and the pigeons were liberated at 09-50 in a north easterly wind.

Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club had 7 members sending 143 birds with Kevin Matthews making it back to back wins with a two year old dark cock which was well ahead of the field taking the red card doing 1283.Taking the next three positions were Mick & Glenda Stone with a two year old bl/pd hen doing 1245 followed by a yearling cheq cock doing 1237 then a two year old bl/pd hen doing 1233 to take fourth.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 14 members sent 171 birds with Dave Waddington getting back to back wins and  a podium finish taking the first three positions. His winner was a two year old cheq cock doing 1275.5 followed by a two year old blue cock doing 1275.0 then a four year old dk/ck cock doing 1262.In fourth were S & H W Hall with a yearling blue cock doing 1240

In Etwall & District Flying Club 8 members sent 123 birds with A.Peach & Son taking three of the first four positions. His winner was a yearling cheq hen doing 1216 followed by a two year old dk/wf cock doing 1214 with a two year old blue cock doing 1195 to take fourth. In third was last week's winner Steve Billings with a two year old mealy cock doing 1196.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 6 members sent 31 birds with Mick Stone ( Glyn & Glenda ) once again leading the way getting a podium finish. His winner was doing 1538.7.His next pigeon doing 1538.3 and his third pigeon doing 1525.In Fourth were D & A Swift & Son doing 1514.

Osmaston Park Homing Society had 15 members sending 166 birds and opening their account for the season taking the first two positions were Mr & Mrs A Houldsworth ( Alan & Liz ).Their winner was a three year old blue cock doing 1525 which was bred by Kevin Southall followed by a yearling blue hen doing 1523 to take second. In third was last week's winner Dave Waddington with a yearling cheq cock doing 1515 with Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) in fourth with a three year old blue hen doing 1515.
