Saturday May 17th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Portland and the pigeons were liberated at 09-00 in a north west wind turning south west en route.
Getting the first pigeon in to Derby also taking the first three positions in Derby South Road Club was Roy Gregory & Son of Mackworth. Their winner was a two year old blue cock doing 1592. This cock winning the first race of the season. Their second pigeon was a three year old blue cock doing 1556.7 followed by a two year old blue cock doing 1556.3. In fourth position was John & Steve Hicks with a four year old cheq cock doing 1552.
In their five bird section Roy Gregory & Son take the first two positions doing 1592 & 1556 with third & fourth positions going to John & Steve Hicks with both pigeons doing 1552.
In Ilkeston Bulls Head Flying Club Roger & Mark Duffield take the red card with a two year old blue cock doing 1575. In second & fourth positions was John & Pam Dowd with two five year old cocks doing 1562 & 1545 with third position going to Rick Shelton with a three year old blue cock doing 1553.
In Etwall & District Flying Club Mr & Mrs T Childs & Son get the winner with a three year old cheq cock doing 1564 also fourth position doing 1539 with a yearling b/w/f cock. In second position with a blue cock doing 1560 was Alan & Liz Houldsworth with third position going to Dave Williams & Son doing 1553 with a two year old ch/wf cock.
In the Silver Ghost Homing Society Woolley & Rogers take the first two positions with their good four year old cock (the Run Away Cock) which also won the first race doing 1559 followed by a three year old blue cock doing 1521. In third & fourth positions was Ernie Barker with a three year old mealy hen doing 1500 and a four old mealy hen doing 1496.
In Osmaston Park Homing Society Mick Stone took the top three positions.His winner was a yearling blue cock doing 1557. His second pigeon was a two year old blue cock doing 1551 followed by a three year old blue cock doing 1541 with fourth position going to Mick Fearn with a six year old coco doing 1540.
Derby Premier were at Salisbury with the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation and the pigeons were liberated at 10-20 with no wind given. Taking the first three positions was the husband & wife partnership of Paul & Lynda Todd. Their winner was a yearling cheq cock doing 1585 followed by a two year old blue hen doing 1579 then a 7 year old hen doing 1577. In fourth position was Derek Ford of Ockbrook with a two year old blue hen doing 1576.
