WHAT PIGEONS LOOK LIKE
by Jim Emerton
The handling and looks of the pigeon, of its phenotype, makes judgement of it relative to the individual person, and is entirely subjective like all things. On a sensory/perceptual level I do like a feeling of beauty, class, grace and harmony induced by the bird. However, when I study one of my strain I reflect on the 39 years in its creation and origin in my care. I can now breed to all the key ancestors in one pigeon squeaker, since my original 7 foundation pigeons. This is a fact over which I contemplate for many hours as a fixed idea that remains stubborn in the mind. The whole concept of a personal strain is a design of great beauty and induces a ZEN like state. So when you look at a pigeon in a glossy advert or in the sales pen what do YOU see in YOUR mind’s eye. Beware the slick sales operator out to buy his new car or house at your expense, since most birds are not fit for purpose.
