Loft Locations & Navigation

LOFT LOCATIONS & NAVIGATION

by Jim Emerton

Let us consider how pigeons may perceive and interpret signals from magnetic fields or other energy forces, applicable to certain loft locations, which may assist some of the quality birds of say Jim Donaldson at Peterhead or Neil Bush at Amcotts, or the Coopers, under their expert management. Will we crack the code, the final enigma of racing pigeon navigation? With the limited minds of man I do not believe it is possible to unravel absolute, total knowledge, although a discipline like science may yield a little human truth on the great question. I believe the great, cosmic questions to be beyond humanity, and I rest in sublime ignorance. I take a philosophical stance on all major aspects of life. The fact that many folk do not repeat the glories of the great fanciers on acquisition of their birds I feel is down to individual systems of management, since I have done well with birds from Denney and Donaldson for example - all being of mixed ancestral origins and not genetically pure or true to type. Each pigeon is an individual from any person. I do suspect that some geographical, global areas are more conducive to racing or solo navigation of pigeons, and to think that ferals fly to the fields in snow and fog - what are the bearings of instinct and memory on this? Is the basis of navigation in the brain/mind of the bird? Over to you!
