LATE-BREDS FOR STOCK
by Jim Emerton
My policy is to take ybs direct from the best performance birds of each year. My no 1 and 2 stock cocks were siblings hatched in September. Late breds will be bred July onwards in the UK. These need rearing to perfection as they are the future of your family. All mine are genetically related and will be paired together the following spring to try and create that elusive champion. It does not matter if they retain some feathers in the moult - it is their inner potential that is significant. I like a nice looker, yet ancestry is all in the racing game. Breed your own then you know some of it. The ybs need plenty of exercise, baths and no training - stock them. After a while you will have the nucleus of your own strain, and that is the final frontier of a fancier.
